ah ok those scoops

By my recollection Tom's racing only made the passenger side scoop. There is however reversed replicas made that fit both sides. Also another JDM tuning house (bomex?) made a similar style scoop for both sides.

150 seems like an ok price to me depending on condition and fitment. I'm sure someone will chip in that they picked one up on ebay for a fiver.

You are dealing with a non Toyota part however so you can get a very non Toyota fitment with these (i.e. poor looking / binding on the engine lid/ uneven gaps etc). Swagger bought some that were advertised as good to go and had aweful trouble with them. I don't think they're the same ones as what you posted however, they were blue if I remember right. Maybe Swagger will chime in.

fitment is a big problem with replica scoops, swagger got screwed for one scoop and it was a few cm's out a few places around, try before you but, it only takes a fe minutes to fit a scoop

I thought that these had a detrimental effect on air flow in the engine unless you had the toms induction box?

I have heard people talking about both sides ...

1 increases the amount of air in the engine bay

or

2 creates more turbulence due to upsetting the 'air in at bottom and out top' design of the engine bay

I know for the inter cooler to work properly you want air flowing across it. Introducing air in at the top as well as the existing intake at low level could reduce the efficiency but not sure it would be noticeable.

I think most people fit for aesthetics rather than anything else. Not my personal taste but each to their own.

well i got them, there OK fitment nothing spectacular but i like them, mine isnt turbo so wont be feeding any intercooler but i was thinking putting a mushroom air filter in it so might bring more air to it?? i dont really drive fast anyways i like to mod mine for feature more than speed. hence the reason i got the na.

as good a reason to buy them as any - basically what I said at the end of my post. Hope they fit well for you and get a few shots of your work posted.

You could even do a 'How two' for the site so anyone else buying similar in the future can get some advice

Only reading this thread now. Yep, I bought a pair of "Bomex" scoops that were sold as Bomex scoops but turned out to be really badly made, crappy remoulds of remoulds. I bought online from another MR2 owner in the UK, via a well known UK MR2 club.

Turned out to be total shite. Fitted better to the wing mirrors than to the inspection panel sections, LOL. The Bomex scoops are the slimline, flat type that hang more over the side rather than face forward over the roof like the Toms ones.

So I would advice to try before you buy if at all possible with things like these. A decent, genuine seller should not have an issue with that.

Luckily yours turned out to be decent and seem to fit well and they look great, so well done.

I actually only took mine down from the attic a couple of weeks ago and took huge pleasure in totally smashing them into lots and lots of tiny pieces on the driveway so that they would fit neatly in the wheely bin. Felt fucking good!
