Update time.
It’s been a while since the last outing in the car, both of us too busy with work to get time out for a few days of track play. During our last outing the car was running poorly at midday and was getting worse as the day went on. We had a fair idea it was due to the exhaust leaking, and so it was. Leaks at the head, the bottom of the down pipes and connections to the silencers. Plenty of O2 to mess with the lambda sensor.

So we set about redeveloping the exhaust system on the car. Having agreed that a 2ZZ Lotus back box was what we needed one second hand unit was sourced and put in position.

Nicely tucked up and now we have centre exhaust exhaust, the Toyotus is coming together. We will need to tidy up the exhaust / bumper arrangement when the time comes.

We sorted out the joint at the head with some die work and a softly, softly approach and went about the mid pipe arrangement using the newish back box the existing downpipe and flexible to create a lovely piece of work to join the dots. We have several pin holes in the welding that was on the reused pipework but we are well happy with the results.

A decatted exhaust, no holes anywhere, 2ZZ lotus backbox and a shorter exhaust run. Hopefully the butt dyno will be able to let us know if any more torques have been released in the lift section of the rev range.
Won’t get out to the OTD on the 23rd due to a wedding and the 11th with trackskills is fecked due to me going to Cardiff. So next outing will be in Kirkstown on the 1st November or if there are any open days in Mondello beforehand, looking forward to it.

Next on the list is an FIA roll cage getting installed and continue with stripping her out and a dyno run to see where we are power wise.

Edit: not sure what is happening with the photos need to read about piscasso a bit more and will edit the post.

Quick update guys and gals, car is still running like a bag of spanners. But ever the optimist, she is booked into the next OTD on 29th April.in Mondello.

So to kick it off properly, she is going to Stone Motorsport for a proper roll cage. That should encourage me to drive her on a bit more, woohoo

Well the roll cage is in, the car is running correctly.

Unfortunately Google has decided to make posting image links from Google photos to difficult for me to understand.

OTD trackday this Friday, really excited to see how she runs this time round.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Brake pads were only a bit worn'ish. Here is the latest selection and position of the poor car in my carport.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Calipers are going for a spot polish.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Shocks are getting fecked in the bin. Being replaced with GAZ gold units with 275lbs front springs and 325lbs rears.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

And driveshaft need to be out to drop the gearbox out and install the closer ratio 6 speed once we swap over a few gubbins, three gearboxes to make one, sheesh [emoji3]

Shall keep the thread posted now that I have photos working again.

Hear the saying them brake pads are worn there metal on metal, that's a whole new meaning, scrap yard would not take them, some driving there I bet, lot's of fun

Yep replacing the yellow stuff pads with Carbon Lorraine RC6's, should be an improvement on the metal to metal model currently being used

The car is an absolute hoot to drive and should be more so when we get the work list done once all the parts arrive.

The Mrk 3 MR2 is a fantastic handling car, very predictable on the limits of grip and great crack to go sliding into and out of corners. Looking forward to the extra poke the shorter gear ratios will give us.

Have just been hoovering around Silvertstone in Rogues MKII and MKIII in both the wet and the dry - I totally agree with Ray, the MKIII is a hoot to drive on the limit..

This was the 750MC pre-season race day, I was driving Rogues MKII and MKIII... All the classes that race in with 750mc were on the track, they were all proper racing drivers so the pace on track was hectic, plus overtaking was allowed.

It was pissing rain for the morning session but dried up a bit..
I am hooked on MKIII, they are more nimble on the track, in fairness the MKIII i was driver had LSD the MKII didn't.
It was really noticeable, as I was really able to drive the MKIII off the apex alot more so than the MKII.

Back from college a bit early today, so got stuck in.
Solo gearbox drop method.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Gear selector from the gearbox on right goes to gearbox in middle. LSD from gearbox on left goes to gearbox in middle. Bang, 2 seconds per laps please God

Coilovers received, brake calipers all refurbed, new brake discs arrived and gearbox awaiting install.

Time to bolt it all together and get some track time.

Lots of other little bits and bobs need to be done to get it all to stick together, but you get the picture.

Cheers Quandry, car doesn't look nice unfortunately, but all the bits that hold it together and make it faster do.

Hope to get it wrapped at some stage this year in racecar type colours for the crack, that will lift the looks nicely.

Another update:

Colour co-ordination or lack there off, worth at least 500 ft/lbs of torques

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Its bad when the real tools have to be taken outta storage, fecking English rust bucket.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Gearbox output seals are all done, only have to put the gearbox back in, get wheel alignment sorted and bleed the brakes and we are ready for a good ol' shake down.

I will say:
KW coilovers thus far are an excellent product, with ABS and Brake hose mounting points exactly where the manufacturers put them, they did however come without Topmounts, but the OEM ones fitted like a glove, well impressed.

Goodridge hoses the same, gone are the days of cable tying braided hoses to the shocks.

Looking forward to seeing what the brake discs are like with the SRF brake fluid, pity you cant get CL pads for the MRS but its a light car yellow stuffs will do for now and may use Endless pads next.

Well she is back on all fours, selecting all gears up to fifth perfectly (ran out of road for sixth). No bangs, rattles or shakes and no bolts left over after all the changes, so that's a plus.

On she goes to Jomo for four wheel alignment tomorrow, happy days.

Re: Toyota MRS, 2ZZ Track Car. 5 Years, 10 Months ago Karma: 328
So a rund down on how things went last friday.

Lots done to the car since the last time out, per my project thread:

www.backroads.ie/forums/showthread.php?1...ta-MRS-2ZZ-Track-Car

Fantastic selection of cars out there, cars of note to me were BL's Lotus, really on song all day long and look very quick from the pit lane. The 458 driven hard and well. The cream Corrolla estate, was fantastic to see it sideways at the top corner near the end of the day. The Mrk2 escort, Ascona and all the Mini's, sorry to hear the rate of attrition. Anyway I shall leave this video of me and the cream coloured Mini having a good ol' time together.

Also had a great mess with Jack in the 309 with Jomo in the passenger seat enjoying the exhaust note of both cars and the pace.

Great day, only missed the rain, which I would have liked to have join us at some stage .
