I recently acquired a nice full leather interior for my mk2 courtesy of Joe in Galway - who really is as sound as everybody says he is.

The seats are in good condition overall, no rips or tears to speak of, but they are 15 - 20 years old and are showing their age in places. Obviously the drivers side seat is much more worn and not as soft and supple as you might expect.

I was wondering if anybody could recommend a good product for treating my leather seats? I've already tried Maguires leather care and it's not bad, it softened them up a bit and leaves a nice smell. But is there anything better out there??

Also is there any product out there specifically for black leather that might restore the blackness of the leather? I was suprised to read on some other forums that people used black shoe polish?!

How much did it set you back? I picked up some leather cleaner (Autoglym) in Tesco for 4.25 they are half price at the moment, no results yet as I only picked it up yesterday but worth a try also.

You mean the seats or the Maguires? The Maguires leather cleaner was 13 euro I think, pity I didn't wait a week longer I would have got the Autoglym instead. Let me how you get on with it.

Joe charged me 130 euro for the full interior, that's seats and door cards and he fitted them there and then too as obviously I didn't have the room to transport them! The next cheapest full leather I found in Ireland was 180 euro and they were ripped. I was even considering buying from the UK and god knows how much that would have cost with shipping, ect.

But they are great seats they hug you did you get the fully adjustable drivers sest I think theres a a couple of knobs to adjust the various parts of the seat.

The leather seats are a great job...you got a really good deal there as well. Post some pics when you get a chance!

Yeah I got the ones with the extra knobs! I only discovered them a few days later. There is one to adjust the bolster, so the seat kind of 'hugs' you as you said. There's also one to adjust the height which is handy and there's the the lumbar support too. Definately more comfortable than the standard cloth ones I had anyway and worth the investment I think. Will try get some pics

I use a bar of Dove Soap, Cleans and restores the leather at the same time and does just a good a job as a branded leather cleaner at a fraction of the price, Its also great for fabric seats and sofas aswell due to the moisturisers in it and the fact that its PH neutral, For my alloys I use any kind of citric household spray, the citric acid breaks up the grime really well and again will only cost about a euro.
