No plans for any replacement Basch. The 2 was an extra car so we are going to back to what we had before i.e. one car between us. Myself and Mrs Spanky travel to work together so that is all we need.

@Slip: It brings a tear to my eye that panda is sad. But I will happily come down to a track day sometime if you will have me .... I'll even make the butties

Brake pads needed doing today...first time doing pads but was pretty easy

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Pads hadn't much left and would not have lasted a track day!

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Brake rewind tool I picked up last week - great quality and made the job super easy both front and back

Get it here (+ free post with Parcel Motel)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008EFRQPA/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

I flushed the brake fluid and stuck some DOT5.1 while I was at it.

Found this in the euro2 shop to extract the old stuff from the resevoir

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

What came out of the system: not too bad so I reckon its not in that long bit more then 2 years anyway!

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

on another note...All my bleed dust caps have broken :( and I'm missing the shim below and the pads on the front bever had shims? lovely!

Rang up Mr.T this morning - should be less then a fiver for all the missing bits - once again a shout to Niall Moran in Linders Chapelizod (01-6299619), his customer service for even the smallest of parts is second to none.

I don't think you need shims, afaik they are to stop sqealing on the brakes, I ordered the missing one on the back as it was only €1.50 - the new bads have shims on the front.

The tool is excellent I have to say.

Yeah am planning one at some stage - making sure the car is in tip top order first - engine oil this week, and I'm awaiting delivery of some Redline MT90 gearbox oil

Busy Day:

...back to the brakes maintenance:

Got my missing shim and bleed caps from Mr.T

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

...while I was there I got 2 x oil filters , shes due an oil change shortly.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

....with the dry weather I decided to finish rust proofing the rest of the sills

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

There is 4 drain plug holes each side, they can be tricky to remove if you jam in a thin screw driver and jiggle and wedge it you can - I managed to get mine all out and back in without braking them but if you manage to break them the part number is 90950-01327 and Toyota tell me they are €1.72 - Linders Chapelizod have never had one in stock anyway!

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

I injected rest of the sills again with Dynax S50, it's tube attachment is ideal for 360degree coverage...I ran out half way through the passenger side, but have used this alot with the rear arches and the sill cavities internally. Ordered another can of the stuff as it's preventatie maintenance worth doing.

You'll need to lay carpet or something down as the dynax creaps through every joing - also reinstalling the plastic drain plug holes , a rubber mallet gets them back in nice and tight.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Dynaxed part of the sill lip that was jacked up in the wrong place by a previous owner

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

...exhaust has started blowing again - stuck some firegum and some heat tape on it - I got 8 months out of the last bandage and putty

noticed while I was down there the bracked arund the pipe covering was broken and loose:

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Couldn't see anything listed in the Toyota EPC for this - but I had a jubillee clip same diameter handy

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

I wanted a little bit more room in the engine bay, particularly near the turbo. So I planned on binning the metal heat shields and sound deadening on the firewall. In their place I installed a product from DEI called Floor & Tunnel Shield II - Heat & Sound Insulation. This sticks to the firewall and reflects the heat and absorbs sound. It can withstand heat up to 954ºC and gives me that extra room near the turbo.

I could not believe the amount of dust behind the original sound deadening. The whole of the firewall had to be cleaned to allow the DEI shield to stick.

No camera on the day to show the work, sorry.

Busy today, finally getting through my list of bits - today is mechanical stuff, got to the gearbox oil (and changed engine oil while I was at it). The history is a bit patchy on the MR2 - I doubt the gearbox oil has ever been done and many are on the fence whether it needs to be done at all, but it cost €80 for some top shelf US gearbox oil.

Overall, not sure if its the placebo effect but I found the changes are smoother especially between second and third, it was always a nice and tight gearbox but no harm done in changing it, it wont be done again while I own it anyway

...a few uninteresting pics, my hands were destroyed so I took very few pics. Thats all my mechanical list of serviceable bits sorted now.

Todays bag of Tricks:

Redline MT90

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Castrol 10w40 & Genuine Toyota Filter

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Next changed the gearbox Oil:

Bolts came off surprisgly easy -

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Warmed up the oil and it came out nice and easy

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

I ordered 2 washers for the gearbox plugs, could have gotten away without them I reckon - they are only 1.10 each anyway:

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

old one was a bit battered but usable

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

one of these yokes is fierce handy to get the new stuff in the gearbox.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

....while the car was jacked up I decided to change the oil, the oil that came out was good for another couple
of thousand (6000mls since last change but for the price of an oil change you'd be mad not too, 3rd Oil chnage since getting her.

..next change 120,000 mls (or 1 year) whichevers first

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

......the aftermath:

Finally got around to doing the red transparency mod on the dash clocks (just waiting for darkness for some pics)

While the clocks are out I changed the full dip bulb to a blue LED - I always thought the bulb was a bit of the dim side and hard to see sometimes - probably not wise to change any of the other bulbs though!

Got some #74 bulbs from fleabay (used the blue one)

Going to go for a nice long drive before my road tax runs out at the end of the month.

I wouldn't mind paying for another month and not three as it will be off the road. This new f4ck1ng road tax system kicks in at end of September. not at all happy with it. I still reckon that all the tax dodgers out there will still dodge the tax even with this new off the road pre-declaratin system in place.

Anyone else pissed off with it......

Yeah but there was far too many on the dodge - I haven't seen one checkpoint since I came back from Australia, but I always have my discs in check.

They reckon the toll cameras and the gosafe vans will be monitoring for no tax!

Its pretty straight forward - you need to dismantle the clocks and cut some transparency to sit under the red bits - its time consumning through probably takes 2 hours realistically

Someone posted it on mr2oc I'll throw a few pics up - I've been out last 2 nights so haven't seen what it looks like in the night yet

I'll drop some of the transparency down to you later - mate was up from Mayo yesterday so duty called

Just changed the bulbs in the dash to LED's. discovered some pox had took a bulb out,I think it's the cat temperature one! Taking bulbs out of warning lights is just bad form! Anyway changing the bulbs is dead handy to do,20 minute job and s nice improvement!
