Changed the oil and filter on the MR2 change number 4 - no harm after mondello and needed doing shortly anyway

while the car was up I wanted to check for rust behind the undertrays

Have to hand it toyota they have the underneath sealed up very well.

Unfortunately every second bolt snapped tried a screw extractor- no dice ...remembered I had a tap and die set unused so drilled them out and retapped. Just the front panel left to do.

lucky I peempted this and had stainless bolts on reserve

Out with the old and in with the new

So another item finally scratched off the list -an autodim mirror prompted by the recent blinding of me from rangerovers : my solution: I used an autodim mirror off a Lexus LS400, problem is the LS400 came in grey or tan interiro so I had to paint the mirror - another bonus is the LS400 is alot bigger and covers a blindspot the MR2 mirror doesn't.

NCT failed on handbrake which I suspected would do - its a common enough issue on the MR2 to happen I believe

On further inspection the passenger side was seized half open and the drivers side was working but on the way out

Picked up 2 PAGID handbrake cables on eurocarparts that come in a nifty racing blue

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

My cables were like this:

Before:

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

20 minutes passenger side - 1.5 hours drivers - could not shift the clevis pin on the handbrake -blowtorch, vicegrips, hammer nothing would shift her - in the end I used a balljoint separator and a deep impact wrench socket to take the pin - out in a minute grrrrr -

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Rusted clevis pin - can to file rust off both this and the holder as it wouldn't fit back in

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Well I've now a working handbrake again , its the small things in life you take for granted :)

Expensive month for the MR2 trying to get through the NCT - 2 handbrake cables, a bit of welding on the drivers seat floor bolt and finally binned the accelera tyres on the front that were on it when I got it - to be fair they weren't the worst - reverted back to stock front from 205/50/15 to 195/55/15 - a pair of Contintental PremiumContact 5's on the front - and another pair of Falken Ze912's 225/50/15on the rear after doing a whopping 22,000 miles they were well and truly worn

looks like the NCT centres are going to be busy with all the mr2's coming out of Hibernation lads!

Going to change the bulbs in the dash to LEDS tonight, then start going through the car and get it ready for test, might try to have it back on road for beginning of April

Good bit done undocumented - rustproofed a few potential problem areas as well.

See the braking effort is down 10% on last year and its well over due a brake fluid change once the weather improves
