Not exactly a successful day but not exactly a failure either ...

The car had great pace until a cheap sparkplug decided to break itself and fall into the cylinder ... on its exit bent a valve .... so head off the engine and repair time ...

But the few laps I did get were fuckin awesome .... Car was on pace and showed serious promise ...

Here are a few pics ...

Re: Japohara Track car build 3 Years ago Karma: 88
Well more Progress to report ...

We had a breakage at the Classic Live race ... So upgrade Time

A spark plug failed .. Part of the ceramic around the electrode broke and fell into the cylinder and damaged a valve on the way out ...

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

So we replaced the old original cardboard head gasket with a 1.8mm thick metal one ... Replaced the valve and resat the othervalves ... immediatly got 16 BHP ...

Back on the dyno and Setup again .... Got it all the way up to 315 BHP ... Sweet

Noticed some oily gunk on the turbo but was 2 lazy to change it ..

So took it to the OTD20 ... Car was ridiculously fast ... Infact hard to handle ... Rolled back the boost to .8 bar which we knew was 270 bhp ... Car was easier to handle and could actually go faster ...

Then I let knifey spooney take it for a few laps ... The tempreture was 32 degrees air tempreture and the turbo was weeping more oil ... It gave up after 4 laps with him ...

Oil pressure released in the turbo itself and off balanced the turbo causing it to eat itself and make some spectacular smoke ...

So off home and collected the backup car and back to track with a celica

We have decided that we need a bigger intercooler so we are removing the boot and placing a large cooler there ... The big smic is just not good enough .. so if anyone is looking for one mine will be for sale soon .....

So far turbo changed and replaced with a fully rebuilt one ... the boot is cut out and waiting for a bigger cooler ...

Re: Japohara Track car build 2 Years, 10 Months ago Karma: 88
Update Time ....

We need a bigger intercooler .... Check ... Evo 7 aftermarket one will do ...

Now we need to make some space to put it ... So out with the angle grinder and remove the boot firewall and floor ...

Engine out ... 6 puk ceramic clutch in .... Timing belt kit and waterpump fitted ... Huge intercooler pipework to be made.. Turbo replaced ... Bottom end fully rebuilt ... Making a custom inlet manifold ... Making a Center Exit exhaust ... Finally Making Front and Rear diffusers .... Oh and a cusco diff ...

Grim Reaper here I come ...

So I will have a Japspeed style exhaust for sale

Also a Greedy style intercooler and Pipework for sale

Re: Japohara Track car build 2 Years, 10 Months ago Karma: 88
OK ... Update again ... I need to have my car out for the next Octane Track Day on the 7th November ... So hard at work

Fazzio had a gearbox with what he was told was a Cusco 2 way diff in it but couldn't be 100% sure .. I took it as a spare gearbox is no harm to have ... When we finally opened the box we realized it actually had a Cusco RS fully adjustable Diff .... and like brand new .... Sweet

The problem with the diff was someone at some stage didn't set it up the correctly and it was a danger to drive ... You can adjust the number of clutches for how tight the diff is from right to left ... Now these should be setup the same on both sides but the were not one was setup at 60% and the other 90% ... That would explain why it was all over the place ...

Anyway not much left to do and 2 and a half weeks to go ....

Engine and gearbox need to be attached together withe the fancy clutch ... Put them into the car ... Make a custom inlet manifold ... Mount the Intercooler in the boot ... Make rear diffuser ... Build a new exhaust as a double centre exit where the number plate is .. Make a front splitter ... then remap ... and setup the geometry ..

Easy

Same thing happened to me with a valve as that, its worth cleaning the top of the piston back in that cylinder to check it has not been heat damaged while running like that.

We have done a little weight loss and made some room for the evo 7 aftermarket intercooler ...

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

We are also building a new inlet manifold and testing that idea ... similar to this

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Engine is just after a full rebuild .....

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

We did have a slight turbo issue when this part came unattached to the rest of the turbo ....

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Its all fun and games ...
