OBD1 Bluetooth Reader + Android App 4 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 25
Settled into new house and have some free time, so time to start loving the MR2 again!

In my trawling, I came across what I have always wanted, but was held back because of my povo-spec JDM OBD1 reader - a bluetooth interface that displayed engine info and warning codes on the fly.

A electronics guru in Canada has developed the system that works off Toyota-specific OBD1 signals and transmits them, via bluetooth, to an Android device (sorry Apple heads! But Android tablets are cheap.....) IMOC and MR2OC did a group buy late last year and it came in at €35 delivered, and the app is free.

It isn't as pretty as Torque Pro or Rev, but this seems to be because of OBD1's slow refresh rates of 1.3 seconds between frames. Which is grim, but the tech is over 20 years at this stage.

Anyway, enough words from me:

His Blog: jfbreton.blogspot.ca/search?updated-max=...00&max-results=7

His Vid:

The App: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=zfapps.toyobd1

I downloaded the app already just to have a nose around. Pretty sick.

Anyway, I am definitely getting one. I setup a list on IMOC to see who was interested, I'll do the same here and merge them:

Thats awesome - had a quick look - good price considering all the R & D work he done.

Not for me at the moment but would be good if this worked with an android headunit for example.

No hassle Ray - Base your puchase on your phone - if you've an android you can use the bluetooth or wifi - but if you've an iphone you'll need a wifi dongle

they are all the same anyway chinese cloned elm327 chipset - worth having in the toolbox anyway

All rev5's are OBD1 with the exception of the Beams which uses OBD2

No hassle dude - PITA not having it but the MR2 is so reliable

On a side note the chinese are a great bunch of lads, pretty much anything can be got - the missus got a 2007 1.8 Civic (fun practical car btw) - Picked up the Honda Main Dealer diagnostics can be got for little over €100 -

Ray look at Harrys lap timer for Android, I tried out the Rookie version last time out and it worked great so upgrading to petrol head soon. You can link your OBD2 into it with a wifi dungle and it gives a great set up for recording video with revs and stuff on it.

Very jealous I cant get it for OBD1 lol.
