welcome along dude, if you need anything don't be afraid to ask, we don't have many regular posters but those who do post are sound and always willing to help no judgement or putting down here, just people that love the mr2

P.S. if you want a good mk2 mr2, Tsporter is selling one for silly cheap for how well it's been looked after

Welcome to MR2.ie. Really sorry to see and hear about your Celica crash. I hope you are ok or recovering. What a shame your car looked amazing and such a senseless loss of a great car.

Nasty looking crash there, hope you walked away alright? Doesn't look like there's much salvageable from it either

Welcome to the forum BTW.

Yep, think of it as a blessing in disguise! You should notice a fair difference in driving an MR2 from the Celica, if you haven't driven one before. I've had 4 Celicas and although they were great cars (well the couple of ST185 GT4s were), i much prefer how an MR2 looks and drives.

Strange how a car can look properly mangled, yet the driver can get away relatively unharmed. I had a Peugeot 205 GTi that had an Mi16 engine fitted, it was too fast for me and i ended up rolling it several times when someone pulled out on me The roof was properly caved in (tried to find some photos but Photobucket seems to be having some problems?). The car was stripped out with just a bucket seat and harness in it, and i walked away without so much as a scratch! To look at the state of the car you'd have thought anyone in it would have been in some state themselves!

I havent had the privilege of driving an mr2 yet, only ever owned front wheel drive n/a cars so it will be totally different lol. A friend of mine is a fireman and was first on the scene he was sure I was dead when he seen the car... I told him its because he drives german cars lol

Ha, funny enough my dad said the same thing when he seen the state of the Impreza that i crashed. It was bent so bad that the front of it almost touched the back. I literally wrapped it around a telegraph pole Lost my right leg in it but just thankful i didn't lose my life He took photographs of it at the scrapyard it was taken to, and to this day he won't show me them. Don't think i want to see them either!

When you get a spin in an MR2 (well a Mk2 MR2 anyway) i think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how different it is to FWD cars. It really is a proper "drivers car" in my opinion and if you treat it with respect then you will enjoy every minute of driving it. Just be careful to get to grips with it first, i'm near sure that MR2s have the reputation that have/had is because of people jumping into one and driving it like they would a FWD car!

Good luck in your search for one, there are a lot of dogs and badly modified examples out there. Best to steer clear of the Rev 1 & 2 cars and look for a 1994 Rev 3 or later as they seem to have leveled out a bit in price these days. A few years ago you'd have been talking £500-£800 difference to get a Rev 3 over a Rev 1 or 2, but i've seen plenty of Rev 3s at Rev 1 money these days. A fella on another local (Northern Ireland) forum picked up a Rev 5 N/A for under £1000, which is insanely cheap when you consider what you are getting for the money!

Well they only made the Rev 3 for a year, so a 1994 car will be the one that you want then mate It will have the updated lights, bigger brakes, better N/A engine if thats the version you are going for, nicer seats and door panels, the nicer spoiler, deeper front bumper lip, much nicer standard wheels (unless they've been replaced with aftermarket ones of course!), etc.
So really by buying a Rev 3 car, you'll likely save money in the long run as you'll probably want to upgrade all what i've mentioned to Rev 3 parts if you buy a Rev 1 or 2!

The buying guide that Slipsliderg linked to will be invaluable when it comes to the mechanical aspects of buying the SW20 version (i.e. the MK2) of MR2.
