I've got discs skimmed before. They were on the front of a dmax.
I ended up with a bad vibration when braking. Ended up replacing them.

Not many updates on the thread the last while so here goes.
Rudolph has proved up to the task for trackdays over the last two weeks, putting in faultless intense KM’s in both the wet and dry. I am delighted the car is running so well for its given task.
ISDC trackday, Mondello 12/10/12
217 Km’s covered and 55 Ltrs of fuel used with passion and fury.
Couple of spins one off and grinning from ear to ear. Went out for a few laps to warm car and self. Car was locking up and sliding a lot and took my about 10 laps to remember that I had thrown about 45 PSI into all the tyres the night before, came in and dropped them all.
Morning session was dry and ran a heap of laps, only issues with the car was tyres and they performed well considering. I ended up having 2 T1R’s, one on front left and one on rear right due to loosing the sidewall after hitting a bank and the valve letting go on the other.
_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
Don’t rate T1R’s on track, but kept getting stuck into it and had a great run up to lunchtime.
I ignored the wobbly T1r’s and pressed on in the evening, it started to rain and I ran indoors to hide my fear of driving an MR in the wet. After a good 40 minutes debating the issue I got stuck into driving in the rain. Three laps gone and I had a fair idea where the grip was and was not, plenty of sideways action ensued and the tyres heating up was not so much an issue due to the wet conditions. Great to get the experience of driving hard in a wet but safe (relatively speaking) place.
Video of the typical cornering at 1:30, thanks Tsporter for the clips.
Morning session.

Evening wet session.

Octane trackday, Mondello 26/10/12
270 Km’s covered and 75 Ltrs of fuel
What a great day, thanks to Damo and Keith for arranging this, popped my Octane trackday cherry. Cracking line up of cars and Rudolph the mismatched Mr2 felt out of place with all the tidy machines about. Track manners were exceptional and if I was in anybody’s way my apologies, but I am fairly sure it was only for a few seconds.
Highlights of the day were seeing a Ferrari 360 and 2 GTR’s being driven as designed, sweet.
Car performed well, lots of high speed sideways action in 3rd gear, bloody tyres!! Endless pads are the stuff of late braking, but overcame my Dunlop efficient grips to easily so were not getting full on abuse. Tyres, all my spare road tyres are nearly used up or busted so looking forward to proper ones next year.
Couple of photos from the day.

Onto Rudolph the trackcar,
First time out for one of the lads from work to drive the track and get a feel for the car having never driven an MR2 before and in the wet for the added heart ache.

Bit of a vid, cheers Marlow, several entries by the MR2 in this.

My favourite picture of the lot I have seen, suspension at full use, time to upgrade??
_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
Going to try getting hi res of these for the garage wall.
So thats the last two weeks, where are we going to next.
The car has lost 86.5 Kgs, with another 15 coming off the driver since I was out last year in the road car.
Another 30 kgs in the seats being replaced with about 10 kgs of Sparco goodness. Then the front and rear crash bars are 41kgs. This leaves me in a position to get rid of another say 60 Kgs plus the driver needs to shed another 5kgs. All in with the driver included there should be a total loss of about 166 Kgs before the next trackday season starts.
All in, this will make a big difference to the overall ability of the car, but what needs doing on the upgrade list first. Aiming to have most of the upgrading done by the end of next year’s track day season.
1.) Finish lightening.
2.) Tyres, A048 or R888’s or outright track tyres.
3.) Suspension.
4.) ARB’s
5.) Roll cage and seam weld.
6.) Brake pads (Endless or CL).
7.) Brakes (replace ABS system with non ABS).
I was thinking tyres, but the suspension is at full capability with normal road tyres?
Suspension wise: OK for the road, but the track sees them to the edge, if I get these they will overcome the tyres quicker I think.
Any advice from the track day guru’s much appreciated.
Thanks for the photos and videos: Tsporter, Marc, Speedy.

Cheers Dshamrock
List of things to be done over the winter is now fixed to the following items unless the budget allows for more to happen.
Complete weight loss work.
Install handbrake cables.
Install Recaro's
Replace brake discs.
Get new Endless or Carbon Lorraine pads.
Remove ABS gubbins and install standard brake system.
Get trackday tyres with strong sidewalls.
Find the missing 14 horses.
Replace gearbox oil.
Fix dent on rear 1/4 panel.
Get four wheel alignment set up to be more track focused.
Paint the front bunper (perhaps).
What I want for the car is one that can deal with mixed wet and dry days with only a change of rims to deal with the water element. This is of course a compromise situation but I am looking for smiles per mile and perhaps into the 2:07ish area on lap time. That pace would not be shabby in a 14 year old N/A with no driver aids.

I am doing away with my handbrake cables, I am getting more wear on one side at the rear and a change of caliper has not helped. I never use it anyway, you cant put it on when you come in or the pads stick on and I always put it in gear on the trailer and when in the garage I chock the wheels so its just extra weight at the minute lol.

That was my original thinking as well, but we had issues with one of the rally cars years ago from leaving it in gear on the trailer. Ended up changing a gearbox in service as something chipped in the box. Don't no what it was as I was only a spanner grunt at the time and not listening.
I think it can have a bad effect on the LSD's as well. This is not internet hearsay, but rallying hearsay so could be a load of bull. Must look it up.

I also unplugged the ABS ecu, that removed the abs but not the big pump in the front. We pulled parts of a rev 1 turbo to remove the pump but havnt done it yet, I will keep and eye on this to see how you get on doing it first lol.

Well the season is starting again, out on the 22/02
So on to repair the mechanical damage from last year before we look to do any improvements.
One drop link broke and the other was bent out of shape.
_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
I think they were mismatched in length and were shorter than the standard units.
New units installed.
_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
Then had a look at the pads, not much left of these. Probably need to change them for the reserve set before lunchtime on the day.
_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
Need to:
Flush brake fluid.
Change oil.
Put used rally slicks on rims.
Put another tyre on rear left for wet weather.
Drive it like I stole it B)
Lots to be done after that roll on 2013.

I priced those endless and CL pads recently and they are mad money!
Did you invest in track rubber?

Nobody spotted the error in my install, I think the drop links are installed on the wrong side of the shock mount i.e. I need to face them the other way.

Didn’t invest but a mate of mine is coming who rallies Mrk 2 escorts and he is giving me some second hand rally slicks. Wohoo! I think the brake pads are the one essential, more important than power is being able to haul up quickly on track. The slicks will help with that as well. Reckon braking at the 50 marker board should be possible with the slicks and endless pads on their last legs.
Hope the drop links survive.

She only pulled 183 bhp on the last dyno day, but yep she is plenty quick but mostly slideways. The weight loss helps alot in keeping corner speed and braking points effective. No videos yet, hopefully after this one I will have some for entertainment and ridicule.

I would put the fresh pads in for the start of the day, bed them in while you are getting the feel for the place rather than after lunch when you are dying to get back at it.
Think a lad who goes to Kirkiston a lot is going, he drives a 3 series with an S2000 engine in it. Goes like shit off a shovel, Tony his name is, sound lad.

Cheers John, I am going to use these pads to strip the rust of the discs, then replace them with the Toyota ones I have. Not the bst of replacements for a track but I will smoke them up anyway.
Not sure if he is going to make it, seen some footage of him going round Kirky and he is quick, quick. Looks like a great combo that engine and chassis.
