White Tiger, AW11 a rare sight. 3 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 326
A couple of years ago my father retired from Toyota having worked for them since they came into Ireland.

Now don’t hold this against him, he was involved in some crazy testing on the LS 400 when it came out first as Ireland was the first country that encountered some bottoming out on the suspension and the Japanese like to use a couple of roads in Donegal to check for this particular issue north of 100 leptrons. He was the first guy I ever seen get a UK spec Supra sideway, qmax an Amazon when the Rathcoole bypass was new. Sat with (guest passo, single stage) Didier Auriol and Carlos Sainz in the Corrolla WRC cars (thought Didier was the better driver, who the feck critic’s a WRC driver!) and caught air on more than one occasion during my development into a petrol head. Could chase any Rally car in Ireland when you were allowed in a Avensis estate full of jerry cans, wheels, rad’s and suspension while the lil’un read the maps and warned that the little blue line might be a bridgggge!.

All in a quiet guy who can handle most cars and yet if I show him a K & N panel filter he would have a fit. So none of your crap here, keep it standard it will be quicker in the long run, if it ain't broke don’t fix it sums him up nicely. How much money, time and effort would it have saved me to actually listen. That may have resulted in me driving a corolla for the rest of my days though.

So no better man to put to work on this Japanese motoring icon. Onward with my rambling tale, I got my hands on this little car from Dshamrock as he didn't want it melting in his drive. Full leather, T-Bar and general Japanese fixtures & fittings.

We gladly placed her in a tiled and heated garage and Daddy dearest got tipping along at it.
New exhaust front to back.

Strip down and rebuild all the callipers.
Full service.
Bits and pieces, you know the ones that have you driving for 2 hours to get a plastic clip. If we say it together it’s like OCD group therapy, promise!!

Then got her thru the NCT, why not change plan altogether and get the body sorted out before putting her on the road.

Tbar seal were leaking, this was narrowed down to a missing plastic insert, where the square hole is.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Then we have the usual rust to the rear arches, nasty looking.

She is rough but nothing really to worry about as its cosmetic metal only.

As of yesterday, new metal welded on and a bit of F/G filler for smoothing.

And silly aerial hole filled, looking to get an original put back in on the original side of the car.

Shall keep the thread updated as progress continues, should be a good clean classic when all done.

Nice, great to see the work going in to this car to keep it alive.
I wondered what happened to D Shamrock, I thought it was to do with the car theft that he stopped posting.
Looking forward to more updates on this.

Subscribed and KC'd for starting a thread on her! No better car for a project IMO, I have to say I'm envious of that leather interior!

Hey TurboD, sorry I missed your call earlier was in meetings. That photo of yours is a bit scary indeed.

I reckon she will turn out standard if senior has his way. Although after hearing Tsporter's S/C The other day maybe we could change his mind.

I hope this holds up to expectations.

Did you manufacture the panels or did you buy them.

I bought the front panel for my MK1, I couldn't get it right.

I will fix it in the future.

Excelent job, Keep the pics coming.

Crmr2, we bought the rear panels from a guy in Wales, however there was some cutting and mending to be done to get them to site right with the trim.

It’s been a while so time for an update methinks.

Car went to a paint shop and came back with more overspray than good painting. We got the guy to remedy the situation and he did the sum total of more crap work. So we cut our losses and sent it to a proper body shop for some work and they really done the car a justice.

Well happy with the results, this was the start point of getting her back together.

More to come after this as the trim has added again and other odds and ends to get her right.

What we have left to do is decide the level of finish required to the overall car.

But basically we need to add in the aerial, clean up the inner wheel arches as they have a load of overspray on them. What to do with the roof wrap, remove it and paint it or remove the mouldings / trim and get wrapped properly. We got original teardrop alloys from Tsporter (thanks) and they will be going for a refurb before the car is put back on the road. Then into the inside of the car, unfortunately the original leather seats and some panels got oversprayed on and this needs to be sorted. This one is not going to be easy to do and we really don’t want to be recovering the seats with new leather. Any suggestions or advice gladly accepted.

We still have to send her back to the bodyshop for a final cleanup to have all the painted and unpainted panels matching, looking forward to the results as even now it looks really tidy. Hope you like the pictures, when she is up to scratch we will have to bring her along to a C & C, trackday or run.

Cheers guys, much appreciated. Wheels are going for a refurb in the coming days.

Then possibly NCT it again this year, then tax, insure and 6000rpm.

Have to figure out what to do on the suspension, rub it down, treat it then paint or leave as it is what do you all think.

Give it a good power wash, hopefully he sprayed over the dirt and it'll come off.... Otherwise I'd strip it all and paint it, won't cost you much other than time and it'll look nice and fresh.

In for the NCT in Fonthill last saturday.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Result, flew thru the test without any fuss or issue, well happy.

Original alloys back on her now (cheers Tsporter) and looking all the better for it, only side strips to go and a centre cap.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Tax and insurance to be sort out in 3-4 weeks, have to get the Mrk II thru the NCT 5th Mar so funds are going that way now.

Cheers guys, keep the eyes open in about a month.

She won't be going to the highlands this year Ricky. Will try and persuade himself to part with it or join us for a run or 2 this year.

WeeJohn, have you got to drive one of these at all, they are great crack and so light. Completely different to the Mrk 2, even one stripped to the bone.
