I was talking to Swagger today at the C&C about model aircraft flying. I've hung up my RC gear now but was in to it in a big way 5 or 6 years ago. Just wanted to post up some pics of my flagship bird: Avant 90 sporting a Hirobo metal head:

That's a 1.8meter tip to tip wing span and fully aerobatic/carbon frame/bell and whistle job. Well it was 6 years ago anyway. The new stuff makes it look dated but it's nice to appreciate old stuff sometimes too (like MR2's :cheer: )
For you Swagger:

Wow that's a nice "toy" you have there Quandry. I always fancied owning a proper remote controlled helicopter. What cc and control range does it have ?
My MR2 is my main hobby, I also like to read technical books mainly about cars.
I wouldn't mind getting into robotics and motorized stuff, maybe next year.
Well up until the leg got wrecked I played American football. It's an awesome sport.
Before said leg wrecking I friend and I would have wen camping/fishing/hunting at least once a month all year round.we are taping about going half on a boat each. I've heard all the brokeback mountain jokes before so feel free.
Computer games have and will continue to be a constant in my life.
Been messing about with the Dslr I bought. I want to master that bad boy.
Think that's pretty much it. Apart from the usual films/ books/ travel.
Astronomy,: got 3 telescopes, 2 pairs of binoculars, a library of books, a subscription to a few magazines and a presence on a number of web astronomy forums. Jsut wish we had better weather for it, it's a reason for thinking of leaving the country at some point!
Computing: I've about 10 pcs in various states of working, and a few boxes of pc components and peripherals. I build firewalls and security camera recording servers for fun, and resurrecting older pcs to work as low-power boxes for single purposes, e.g. as a torrent download server.
Mountain Biking: To get fit after an illness a few years ago I took up MTB as a get-fit exercise. As it turns out I love it as an endeavour in its own right, and I try to regularly get on a trail and cycle cross-country with a little bit of downhill but I'm too scared/inexperienced to be good at the downhill.
Kayaking: Been a paddler for nearly 20 years, many foreign holidays exclusively to get wet out foreign, to the alps, the pyrenees, Wales, Scotland, Kerry (). I've a full set of gear including rescue equipment for whitewater, and another set for kayak surfing.
Amiga: I have an A500 and an A1200. The 1200 has a 30gb disk and uprated roms with a blizzard 030@50 acceerator card and a network card, and it runs *all* of the old A500 games and a lot of the newer AGA games from disk image or local harddisk install. Retro comuter gaming that brings me back to the early '90s
Reading fantasy novels: I'm a fan of Stephen King, Raymond E Feist, Robert Jordan, and lately I've been reading Trudi Canavan's books. I've started to build up a library of my favourite novelists.
The MR2 comes in as what is now a minor hobby, but one that I'm really glad of on a sunny day with no rush, where myself and the GF can just go for a spin in the little red sportscar and have a lot of fun.
I thought you were only joking about this thread Quandry!
Good idea all the same and thanks for those links.
I have no pics of my heli yet, it's away getting properly set up for me, new Li-PO and Gyro. My dad gave it to me as he is too busy with his planes to ever use it. To be fair, it's way too good for me right now, as I am only starting out with Heli's. I have built and flown planes but this is a new world. The heli is too advanced for me to try to set it up by myself so getting a pro to do it. Lots of practice with the simulator before I take this thing to the air for real. As I said today though, it's a Logo 10, pretty good, with a Kontronics motor and Futaba 9CH computer TX.
I will post pics as I get them.
In the meantime, I have almost finished my 1:14 USA style semi-truck. It's based on a Freightliner. I have spent a long time doing the paint work. I even bought a compressor and airbrush and practiced my butt off before painting the truck. I am just waiting on good weather to clearcoat it and then I can do the final assembly.
I have a multi function unit installed which is basically like an onboard computer. It is the speed controller and also handles all the sounds and lights. The truck has all the full size truck funtions, including an active and R/C controllable 5th wheel, full shocks and leaf springs, drive shafts, fully built diffs and 3 speed gearbox with brake. All sounds, engine rev, start up, cut out, air brakes, jake brake, indicators and the rest, all the lighting you can imagine. It's quite common for these to be customized and tricked out to no end.
Truck itself is about half a metre long and the trailers add about another metre to that. Yet to get a trailer.
I have a few build pics along the way, but I intend to make a video someday soon.
For now though, for an idea of what it is like, check out these vids.
THESE ARE NOT MY ACTUAL TRUCK, just similar pulled from youtube:
Not my heli, but an idea of what the Logo 10 looks like:

Look what these things are capable of once in the hands of a warlock or a sorcerer. It's like it's posessed! Check out the landing at the very end of the vid:
Wise words on the practicing Swagger! I had/have a kyosho helli and had it mastered on the pc simulator. Reallity was a different ball game. Was kinda like your possessed video only without the happy ending I've put it back together and it hasn't been started since.

On the hobbie end of things it's been mostly cars. I had an 87 Ford Capri 2.8i, 88 Ford Sierra Cosworth Rwd, Porsche 944, 92 Jaguar xj6 and it seems the tubby is here for keeps.
My next mission is a V6 conversion with the NA I have. That should keep me quiet for the winter.
Other small hobbies are boating(briefly!) computer gaming and lately a tropical fish tank!
Photography was always my biggest hobby, lately I've been getting into homebrewing and I'm enjoying that.
My hobby for next year is this...
Timelapse photography, I've done one timelapse video before but nowhere near that standard, I'll give myself a few attempts before my work is of that standard
@ Smurfster - That Kyosho looks nice, dusty, but nice Shame you are not using it but god to that there are at least 3 on here that have RC Helis....maybe a future meet!
@ Mark, that is a really amazing vid, I can see the appeal for sure. However, I have also seen some of your own work and I can't see why you could not produce similar videos yourself already given the right equipment, time and of course the right location / subject matter. Keep at it man!

That range is closed now and lots of 9mm and other calibre pistols and revolvers have been revoked but I am going to check some other ranges and see if we could organise a day out for us all , failing that does anyone own private land ?
All handgun licences were revoked for ROI last year unfortunately unless you have a specific need of one. Wouldn't stop us going clay pigeon shooting which is almost as much fun. There is a range in Blessington, Avon Ri, not the best place at all, but handy location.
I still have my handgun , and some people are still getting licences for 9mm`s etc. so we might be able to try Hilltop range in Roundwood and a few others .

I've heard of that place, I'm pretty sure you can do zorbing there. That's something on my bucket list!

I don`t see anything about the zorbing in Avon Ri but I brought my kids to Corkagh Park in Clondalkin once and I saw zorbing there alright . It`s a great public park .
