I've never owned one but have drove a load of them and always found them nice to drive.. Any one I know that has owned them has never complained bout them or have had any trouble with them!! I know one lad who has 2 tvr's and also had a mx5 at one stage and said that the mx5 was great to drive cos it was great fun little car without getting him into the trouble that the tvr's did!! Their very fun little car that can be thrown around without causing 2 much grief but can get the back out if a proper diff is fitted.. I'd be looking for a 1.8 one just for the little bit of extra go and their also more common with diff and better spec.. Their getting cheap to get parts for with many uk specialists selling all sorts of parts from lowering springs to superchargers and turbos if the mood took ya... I'd have one no bother but id be looking for hard top just for the extra bit of security I did look at a few last year but found it hard to find a cheap enough one that was in decent condition as their getting old now so the older ones can be quite badly dented!!

good choice ...

My brother is on a hunt for mx5, the last one with pop-ups.
Many cheap ones around but quite tired some of them.
Some special versions as well.

As I remember someone from here was talking about mx5 on the show that he used to own one, try Stive H.

I had one for about 4 months or so. I enjoyed it.

Best place to look for one is on the MX5 Irish owners club. I picked one up for 1400 with a hardtop, leather interior, coilovers, HKS turbo kit (that needed to be fitted, never got around to it) and a bitta tax and NCT.

Was good fun, but lacked power for me and didn't want the hassle of a turbo kit I didn't know the condition of. Handling was great, and the yellowstuff pads were brilliant!!

Another factor was the road noise, pretty noisey even with the hardtop on

Looked at these for the missus but hard to find a clean one. The 1.8RS model looks tasty. Good reliability but the hard tops (optional extra) are rare. Best of luck with the search.
