Haha ya my point is the value proposition even with the great handling is just not there with the GT86 in its current form. Its actually quite similiar to the RX8 in that respect.

The handling is phenominal but its just that bit lacking in power to do it justice.

Ya getting beatin by hot hatches is not gonna be fun :-p If you wanted fun driving where you have to drive the bollocks out of the car buy an eg6 homda civic now thats a fun little car to drive :-D

Everything I drive gets that treatment, and each one has its own quirk that give me enjoyment. Even the Previa and the expression on other peoples faces as you round a tight bend listing like a tall ship in a gale.

See my (and it is mine) problem with these reviews / opinions is, I consider the car as a package of engineering and disregard the price. This is not because I have bottomless pockets, its because when the car comes into my price range it will still preform as intended in design for a cheap as chips price, dependant on when I choose to purchase it.

Therefore the arguement that it is underpowered for its price will last say two years, then it will be a fun car to drive at a reasonable price and still have warranty left. Or when its 11 years old like when I bought the first MR2 and haven't looked back yet. I am looking forward to working in the garage with my sons and daughter stripping out every last gubbin of excess weight from one for a track car that I am to feeble to drive but will sit in the passenger seat while being driven around mondello with a wry grin on my face and tell them to drive harder.

I do agree and mentioned in my minnie review that I'd prob pick the car up down the line second hand as I agree as an engineering piece it is a great piece of work. I also state that its the Irish Gov not Toyota that have ruined its sticker price.

However one cant just ignore the fact it is expensive for what you get especially considering the boxer engine which I am not a fan of. It will defo have value prospects down the line however right now its not and we need people to buy em so we can pick em up second hand and the more they shift now the cheaper the second hand market down the line.

All this comes from a petrol head too I love trashing around a car I have had as much fun in the parents laguna which i learned to drive in as in the MR2. It was a different type of fun in the sense you were working for every last mph.

But sure here be the west cork man in me always havin an opinion :-p

I saw that auto car article and it was an inspiring read, went to Toyota's website, saw the sticker price and closed it down as a waste of time.

I think it's disgraceful that Toyota UK sell for 24k (sterling) and here it's 40k euro. IMO it's VRT plus Toyota, they could try harder to get it in at a reasonable price if they wanted to. Seems to me that GT86 sales will be a success elsewhere but a flop in Ireland, my bet is that we will have a lot of them in 6 years time and 80% of those will be grey imports. Sound familiar?

The GT86 brochures are out. Got a call about collection mine from my local dealer. I was passing so called in and collected only to arrive home and found that two had arrived by post from Toyota Ireland.

Its a pity the car was inside or I would have taken some shots of my 2 and the GT86 side by side. Anyone manage to do that yet?

I'd love to know how the chassis handles the power, lots of straight line pulls no real corner action. I think at 450hp and 500lbs torque its prob gonna be a handful tbh i think a 300bhp gt86 would be a nice happy medium where you can really push it but not feel like your gonna wreck it cause of power coming on at 4k rpm and overwhelming the rear wheels/suspension

Hmm looks interesting wish ireland didnt get screwed with the price of the car as its about the same price to buy the gt86 and add the turbo kis in uk as it is to just buy the car in Ireland!!

Not sure I am all for the race car its rather sideways think the power has definitely overcome the stock setup there looks fun but not exactly usable power on the road.

hmm interesting. As you say doesn't look bad, I think I prefer the tin top version though. I wonder will this add a lot of weight in reinforcing?

btw, I saw that ATS Racing have started developing turbo kits for the GT86. I hope it's engine is strong

Hey Quandry,

By the looks of it the stock engine is pretty strong from the examples rawford and Lichfield have been putting out anything from 300-500bhp. The limiting factor on these cars seems to be the driveshafts etc. So getting big power is going to get expensive quick.

Seems the days of over engineering like the supra tt are over and its all very fine tuned so you get the required amount of performance from aprts but nothing extra thus reducing costs but also ability to mod the car easily.

I've seen various reports saying that they are going ahead with the drop top 86 and then counter reports saying they have decided against it and instead favouring a sedan model of the car...
www.worldcarfans.com/113110365467/toyota...for-dubai-motor-show

It's hard to know what toyota are up to with all these different reports, All I know is they need to bring out more new sports cars, e.g. a new mr2, celica and a supra and turbo charge the lot of them! lol
