Ah yep, same as with the least favorite title. Couple of them liftbacks for sale on donedeal at the moment.

Quandry wrote:
This was a time that Toyota owners were very passionate about their cars as they were, honest, dependable, loveable, and great value for money.

This is what I am hopping for on the FT-86.

Was thinking about the Irish model launch of the FT-86 and wouldn't it be class to get all the original toyota sports line up together in say mondello with track time!!.

I think it would be a very marketable idea to sell to Toyota as the dawning of a new age for Toyota under the helm of Akio Toyoda.

Presenting the new car, and showing prime examples of the original sports line up since the 70's to show a heritage of reliability & performance across generations at this stage.

PS I have just sent an email to my Toyota contact asking them if they would be interested in this little idea of mine, watch this space.

Copy of the text.

I was thinking about the FT-86 and may have an idea for you to run by your marketing guys. I have been told me over the years, generally a new Toyota performance car would be released to the press in the likes of Mondello.

Now what I was thinking was how about I use my Toyota web contact to gather as many of the Toyota sports line up of cars since Toyota came to Ireland. Get them to a press launch day for photo opportunities it would be like a gathering of the old clan presenting the new arrival, and showing prime examples of the original sports line up since the 70's to demonstrate a tradition of reliability & performance across the generations.

I think it would be a very marketable idea to generate interest in the FT-86 & Toyota to a very specific and passionate customer base, many of whom have now got the disposable income to purchase.

While showing cars to the Irish market they may well remember as vehicles that defined a divergence in motoring through Toyota’s growth over the years in Ireland versus its competitors.

Well FT86 club is on the ball, they have some pics up already of the Toyota and Subaru respective Ft86 models:

[img]http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1780
[img]http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1779

My take on the Toyota pics is that the design just looks great to me. I really like the way the body shape flows. I'm not a huge fan of orange but they really look to have pulled it off under that lighting. Particularly the contrasting carbon look splitter and polished tail pipes. I think this car looks amazing, I hope it has the power to back it up (2 litre turbo would be nice) and also an attractive market entry price. There's a big gap in the market place for something like this. It could be debated however that there are buyers available given the current economy, however economies go up and down, and getting a foot hold now would pay big dividends in the future - I am convinced.

One question though, how would Tom's even make a body kit for this?? it's already kitted from the factory!

My take on the Subaru pics is that it's hard to make out the shape of the car as they made it clear. They're really trying to emphasise the engineering inside of it I guess: their USP (Unique Selling Point). It's got to be hard trying to approach a market that is already tight in the current economy, but then to breakup the sales between two brands which is essentially the same car? I think Subaru are hoping that their fans who love Boxer engines will stay in tow. That's why they reinforced it with all of the chrome etc, it is so damn shiny that it almost looks like it's platinum plated. For sure the engineering guys had fun putting together this one. The wheels look completely ho hum, and would do on a non clear car. No AWD in this model, as a former WRX owner I think it would have been a nice addition!
Apart from the fact that the motor is all polished to hell I don't see anything revolutionary there, it just looks like suspension and stuff which is on every car. That could backfire a bit on them especially when considering the non appearance of AWD on that car. Another thing to consider is that I bet the engine doesn't come chromed like that when you buy one ;)

Whatever can be said about it, ie, price and so on, it most certainly is one of the most cutting edge, sportiest and sexiest cars I have ever seen. That burnt orange is lovely, and the black. I have a feeling that it's one of those rare cars that can pull of just about any colour and make it look amazing.

I just watched the video on the ft-86 site and it says the real production model will be displayed at the Tokoyo motor show November 13th.
I wonder what differences there will be to that model displayed at Frankfurt.

The design is awesome and im sure will take the top gear guys by big surprise when they get to test it allow i expect the chassis and suspension to be very good not so sure on the engine which is dated to say the least having TRD and yamaha expertise why go with the subaru block.

The sub 1000 kgs sounds really impressive, hope the rings true. Of course when I sit in it the weight will equal that of the Mrk II turbo

Im mistaken! The subaru N/A block is 148bhp and toyota and yamaha will totally redesign the engine to enhance it to the quoted 200bhp N/A and as u said if sub 1000kgs should be good enough for mid 5's to 60 and 14's 1/4 mile gonna be toyota direct injection also which will help with econemy.

Made for an interesting read... KC'd.
One point I didn't like at all was

If ever a man needed to pull his head out of his ass, now would be the time! lol

Why?
From Autocar review

The FT-86’s modest limits and power mean that it should prove enjoyable on the road: you’ll be able to get more out of it, more often, than you could a much faster and more theoretically capable sports car, whose reward is more often than not limited by visibility and sensibility.

In that way it is very like the MR2, punching well above its weight in the fun factor. More power will only leave a bigger hole in the ditch.

If the turbo is needed, then the Subaru variant is the option to go for.

yep and then 2k per year in road tax - because it looks sporty.

and 2k per year in insurance and 90% of insurance companies will refuse to insure it - because it looks sporty.

and then 800eur for tyres because it uses a size not commonly found on an avensis or other car used as a taxi - because it looks sporty.

Thankyou ROI!

note: these prices listed only in jest.

Same as, but I would love to be 22 again instead of looking at twice that

Would really like to buy this and currently trying to align my ducks in a row now to achieve it, realistically I may need to wait till they are two years old though.

Anyone see any decent reports/coverage from the Tokyo Motor show yet?
I haven't come across anything new about the FT-86 yet which I think is strange considering this is such a big deal for Toyota.

I can't wait to see one of these cars properly.

I also just read that Toyota has pushed back the revealing of the production model at the Tokyo Motor Show to the 3rd of December, won't be long now!

Im a tad skeptical of these pictures.
Seem to be heavily edited to me, did you see the width of the rear tyres(or should I say lack of)?!
Not feeling those alloys either, seem to be a lot cheaper looking than the concept and I also notice a lack of break disks.
Also in some pics the rear is sitting higher than the front and then in others the front is higher than the rear.
If this is official, they also made the rear diffuser uglier than it was on the concept.
The all black interior is nice, and the flip switches on the centre console make it look like a cockpit of a fighter plane which is cool!
