Okay, not everyone likes the Border vented hood but since i saw the black Border car with gold rims years ago, i just loved it.
_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
So, i was on various group buys on IMOC for group buys but all fell through and no hood for me :(
There is a guy on ebay who sells vented fibreglass sections and you cut your bonnet and then rivet / bond it on. But, you risk it cracking, as the metal / fibreglass have different expansion rates.
So, a guy on mr2oc.co.uk made his own Border hood and in theory it looked straight forward - cut two vented sections and drop them and fibreglass the sides and add vents.
I've never done fibreglass work and to be honest, i don't have the space to be cutting my car in my driveway - or the time (would end up with one of the kids fibreglassing themselves to the car!)
Even i could find a group buy, they were all for c/f hoods. So, i'd be paying for something that i'd paint over, as i'd want it same as the body colour. Plus, with c/f hoods, you need bonnet pins. With the stock hood, it'd retain the weight and no need for pins. And stock hood would make sure the stock latch worked.
So, i thought where could i bring my car to, to get this done ....
And then it hit me - PeggyOnTheRun !!! If he can make a Lamborghini, he can surely make a vented hood.
I asked and Sean said he'd love to try it.
I dropped car down the other day and he got straight onto it. measured the vents making sure that the vents will drain down over the rad and onto the road.
So, first pic after Sean had it all measured

Would you consider vents in the front wings, I think they look great?

I really like the vents in the wings but i kinda see them as being more for the hardcore racer look. I am not sure the Spider could pull it off - i kinda want a cleaner lines / classic look.
If i had a hardtop / t-bar, i'd def like a set

Cool! DIY Border hood - the guy in Malta did a DIY single scoop if I remember correctly?

Like the Asksport hood ? i like that as well - but if you do that, then the vent has to be before the latch and so can't go so far forward. And if it doesn't go so far forward, then it might drain into the frunk.
Although, he did live in Malta which has less rain than us and he appeared to have a garage !
yeah, just checked - the Asksport hood sits further back - so, looks like that water might drain into the frunk. Or else they have some sort of drain mechanism underneath.

Sean got a lot done today - can see the shape and basic depth. Loving it
He had to cut out some of the support structure underneath and make up some custom supports.
As always, Sean has loads of pics

i get where you're coming from Mark - and i reckon that because i will be going body coloured as opposed to c/f, that it will give a subtle and even stock look.

Awesome. Is he going to match in the bonnet or spray the whole car?

I'd love a full respray but for now, its just match the bonnet.
Rogue lights, stroker, new turbo, new soft-top all have to come before a full respray.

Fair play to you Spidey, you have a unique MR2 Spider. KC+
Any photos of the rear of the modified bonnet ?

Thanks Marty - yeah, am slowly making the Spider mine in terms of looks. Other things i want are rev6 lights, Toms rear and Toms duckbill spoiler.
[dream]Engine wise - i want a 2.3 stroker with a Precision CEA turbo[/dream]
i thought i put up all the photos. All photobucket images are blocked here in work, so i'll get them up later this evening. Sean strengthened under the vents and then fibreglassed over the extra strengthening for a clean look

Don't know if you heard about Staff MR2 kits, but he does a nice version of TOM'S rear bumper with additional diffuser and normal size registration plate.

I submitted two queries via his site and heard nothing back.
maybe i'll try contact him via mr2oc.co.uk - he was getting great reviews there, as he was actually test fitting each piece on a car he has.
