Hey Mark, I will be there for no later than 13-30.

Timetable for the evening session.

Afternoon Timetable
14:00 Classroom instruction
14:30 On track instruction
15:00 Break
15:15 Classroom instruction
15:50 On track instruction
16:30 Supervised free track time
16:50 Debrief

I think this is a list of who is going and we all seem to be in the evening session.

1. Slipsliderg
2. b4ss
3. Turborgman

5.

I am convinced I missed somebody there? Probably getting confused across the threads.

70 minute of track time, worn may become completely gone in that time depending on how hard you are pushing.

Then you have to drive home as well.

Re:Mondello Park Car Track Day Training 6 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 327
What a day, enjoyable from every angle even sideways , great to meet up with the lads so early in the year and the cars looked smashing parked, let alone going around the track.

The day ran in the format below, and despite what people may think it was very informative. I will admit though the mind can wander and wonder when the funk do we get some track time. Probably more to do with adrenline than anything else.

We did, I would say about 6 laps in the first session (in our cars and radios to a lead driver). First lap out, stopping at one of the corners where we were given a walk thru of the corner, Then proceeded to do some laps with the pace increasing as we went on.

Then in for a break and some more info and a video of a poor MR2 tubby T-Bar on fire in the pit lane

Out again following a lead driver, probably six more laps again with the pace increasing. Back into the pit lane then and we were told to get the helmets. We were being presented the track as a live session would be on any given track day. Although the instructors did drive around keeping an eye on things as they went on.

Back in after the live session (20 minutes) for a debrief and chat about how we felt the course went. Very positive feedback was given and I am sure if anything the course can only improve.

Now notes to myself,

1. Goodyear efficient grips on the front, do what they say on the tin (save you fuel! althought I was surprised at the grip level)

2. Hankook Ventus (ditch finders by rep) on the rear, they did ok as well, broke away a good few times but told you they were going to.

3. Eibach progressive springs and B6 yellow billies, excellent.

4. Fixed front and rear control arms, bloody great for driver feel.

5. Braided brake hoses, didn't really notice anything above OEM

6. Halfords Dot 4 brake fluid, did well for what it is, no fade. Although if I was upgrading pads I think I would go for a branded version.

7. SW20, N/A excellent, really impressed by the cars performance today.

Was talking to a mate of mine afterwards and he mentioned that on the Subaru owners club they ask what speed you got up to at trackdays.

His reply is the same as mine "if you know that, is was not fast enough" all i can say is that I needed forth twice on each lap with a 7200 red line

Bloodly great day, made all the better with great company chers guys KC's coming to you all.

Re:Mondello Park Car Track Day Training 6 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 21
yep it was a great day and was well run, good to have so many mr2's out as well, they had markers on the track for braking points, turn in and apex points and these were invaluable. The track can be a bit misleading and can look the same and you can get lost but there wasn't much hassle.
I found the instructors advice was good and they wanted us to go as fast as possible.
great to see everybody and would definitely recommend it to anyone
Spidey i think it was fully booked, 20 in the morning session, 19 in the evening,

I had a ball myself, here are my comments:

If you are going to do one, it really helps to know the track, as you can build up your pace and confidence quicker. If you want to learn mondello it is available in

GTR Evo - www.gtr-evolution.com/ - 20 Euro
Mondello track - www.nogripracing.com/details.php?filenr=6089
rFactor -

It is also in TOCA Race Driver 3 and Need For Speed: Pro Street(apparently).

If it is your first time out in Mondello, you can happily cruise around in 3rd while you get to know the track and the lines initially...

For me the biggest part of it, was how quick an MR2 can stop once warmed up

All in all great day out, and great to see good few MR2s down there

Out of interest, what was the timing system like?

Were they able to show top speed, track times etc etc?

Who saw what speed down the main straight? I presume Ray was on the speed limiter

Re:Mondello Park Car Track Day Training 6 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 327
There is no timing equipment used, when I used to race you had a transponder that was linked into the track system and the times could be tracked then. The system needs staff and people to have transponders, so no need to do it for trackdays.

As for top speed, "if you have time to look at the speed your not going fast enough"

I did notch into fourth cresting the hill into tarzan 1, and just under the bridge on the main straight but only in the gear for maybe 1/2 seconds. My car will get to about 92mph in third so I would say I maxed out at about 85 mph if I was to look back at it, couldn't be sure though.

Might not sound like much speed, but to put it into context.

The crest of the hill coming into tarzan 1 is blind when you come over the top all you can see is this double 90 bends & a gravel trap , you go for the brakes, the back end of the car comes loose , you counter steer , , let off the brakes , turn in and all of a sudden you wonder why you took the corner so slow and then repeat the process for the next corner.

As Ray says you won't have a second to look at your speedo on hot laps.
i checked mine on cool off lap, 145kph into tarzan 1 and around the same coming into braking zone for corner 1.

Bit of an update from Mondello.

Octane link

due to a lack of weekend dates in the near future we are considering running the next training day on a Monday or a Tuesday. We know from experience that week days are hard to fill and will not schedule this date unless we feel that there is enough interest. If we cannot fill at least one session (twenty drivers) then the day will not run and we will have to wait quite a while before we get another weekend date.

Can anyone interested in doing a Monday or Tuesday please let me know by PM. If we get sufficient interest we will set an exact date and then open it up for booking.
