Joe O Reilly / MR2 Track day 7 Years, 10 Months ago

Ok Guys ..
Just been talking to Joe's Nephew .. and we were throwing around the Idea of a Tribute Track day for Joe .. After all he has sold parts to more than half the MR2 owners in the country .. It would be nice to make this an annual event starting on his 1 year anniversary ..
I have contacted Leo Nulty at Mondello to get an exact price on the track hire for a day ..
As far as I can find out its about 5k for the international track for the day so the more of us that go the cheaper it will be .. At the moment we are just seeing the interest so put your name down ... If we can get 25 cars it will be approx 200 ... Which is a cheap track day .. I would be shocked if we couldn't drum up at least 25 cars

KC+1 for the idea.
I've been threatening to track my car for a while now, i'll provisionally book depending on the date as I've to work certain weekends.
Might be worth mentioning additional requirements for doing a track day,I think a helmet is required anyway.

I would caution though, if the amount of people who say they are going don't arrive, the bill for each person that attends will get bigger.
Mondello will need to be paid regardless of 1 or 50 attend.
I would recommend that you get non refundable payment at least a month before the event. Something like the OTD's regs needs to be put in place before anybody sets anything up IMO. Price and details would be different of course.
Venue: Mondello Park, Donore, Naas, County Kildare.
Date: Feb. 22nd 2013, Friday.
Track: International.
Cost: €150 incl. one driver and lunch.
Time: TBC but pencil in 09:45 - 16:45
Points to note:
1. Payments of €150 by Bank transfer or lodgement, in full will only be accepted. This covers Driver plus Car* for the session . It's an AIB account. When paying please put your name and Octane Track day in the subject line of the transfer. PM if you don't have the details and we will send them to you.PM ??? to let us know that you have sent the money.
2. All payments are non-refundable. We may have a reserve list, if you cannot make it, we will pass on contact details and you can organise reimbursement with whoever is taking your spot. We cannot guarantee that there will be a reserve list. Swapping places without confirmation from ??? is not permitted.
3. You are responsible for your own car on track and most insurance companies will not cover track day use as part of your policy.
4. Drivers MUST have been ??? members (or attended the previous track day) with at least 150 posts to their name. 150 posts of meaningfull stuff, we are looking for contributers to ??? to get places not drunken louts . This is to insure genuine contributers to ??? get to drive as a preference, some people missed out last time. Get in early, we have only a limited number of places!!
5. As stated in Mondello - all track rules apply. This includes the 5mph speed limit in the paddock and entrance to the venue. Any speeding or other stunts will not be tolerate by Mondello and they will eject you from the venue without refund.
6. Sadly, we have to limit to the people in the paddock for obvious reasons. We are letting in any regular posters on the site. Friends/neighbours/dogs/cats/grannies are welcome to join in on the Grandstand side of the track. PM ??? if you have any special requests and we will do our best. There will be a wristband/stamp system in place to get to the paddock side of the track.
7. We do not control the weather though. The show will go on as long as Mondello deem it safe to do so.
8. This is definitely not a test day for race cars. We know some people here have track cars / race cars but there is a big difference between wanting to come to an ??? TD and wanting to come to test your car. PM ??? with details of the car and we'll have a chat.
9. Have fun, enjoy the day - and play it safe. We want to build on our reputation. There is always a great atmosphere on and off the track so lets keep it like that.
10. Please contact us by PM or email ONLY.

I'm in. Maybe get as many mr2's as you can and then get onto another club(i.e. Robbie ISDC) to see if they wanna fill the spots...
How many cars would you need to get it to €150?

Cost of track is 5800 ... trying to get a better price ... 50 cars would be a nice number and track wont be to busy... the more cars the cheaper it is we dont want to make any profit out of this just have a good day and good pics .... I dont see any reason to not allow other groups join us ... my kitchen commander has said she will make sambos and tea and I am sure some of the other kitchen commanders will help ....

I'd say you could get plenty of cars if you pick a good date, something that isn't too close to other track days that regulars attend.
Myself, slip, basch and m3mick(i think) had a great day out with the ISDC lads last year and there was no messing with them. You'd probably get a few from the new Octane crowd aswell and friends of friends. Try stay away from inviting the drifters though! To be honest €150 would be more what I'd like to pay for the day out on track, taking into account you have to add fuel, etc....if we could get the numbers up that is!
KC'd for the effort!

It would be lovely to keep it just to MR2's but lets be realistic .. We wont get the numbers in MR2's alone to get the price low enough ... I personally would say it wouldn't be a problem ... Only thing I want to avoid is people messing ... We all love our cars and spend alot of money on them we don't want to risk damaging them ...
If everyone else agrees I would say come along .. Pity you dont still have an MR2 .. there is still time to buy one however ...LOL

What's the likelihood of damaging your car (mechanical failures aside)? would this be racing or just doing laps?
Im tempted but worried about wrecking my car.

Just doing laps ... there are loads of runoff areas and as long as everyone acts responsible on track there will be no damage done to anyones car ... thats why its important that everyone use their mirrors and act responsible

I think we are all afraid of damaging our cars but to joy of us all doing it together is that we can control who we allow go ... I feel more relaxed knowing I will be doing a track day with a bunch of guys that care about their cars .... and no yobbos ...

OK good and bad news ...
Track costs to us ...
National Track 4500 + Vat full day
International Track 5500 + Vat Full day down from 5800
Thats the bad news ... Now the good news
We get all the garages and the suites at the cost ...
And we should be able to get a half day ... Which is rare ... They will work out a price for us if we want to look at that ... We would have 3 hours of track time instead of 6 hours ... Which would be plenty
