Like below but with the LEDs evenly spread out to fill the light, not just the one strip. It's the only way I would do it. I don't like the single strip Audi style at all.

You wouldn't see the indicator if you did it your way, would you ?

I just have the LED bulbs in the standard fitment for parking lights. If you want to put LEDs in the indicators you will either need a load resistor or special flasher relay to stop bulbs being blown/fuses going pop/"ricer flash"

Swagger and Spidey did the 1 strip as far as I can remember, involved an oven to open the housing etc

Hmmm I'm not sure that I would want to go the Audi light strip style route. It looks OK to me, but it is more work.

It looks like our cars would need ballast resistors to use leds for the indicators, apparently they flash too fast without them.

Yeah myself and Spidey did this. You have to pop the indicator unit in the oven at about 100 degrees C for about 15 mins. Hot enough that you can't hold it without a towel but not hot enough to melt the unit. You just want to melt the glue and pop the tabs to remove the lenses. CAREFUL!! Remove slowly and evenly so as not to crack them!!!

You will need to cut a small channel out of some of the inner walls so that you can fit in the LED strip. Pretty easy, just a small hole at the back to let the wire out and wire it into the side light loom. Reheat to soften the glue again for pressing the lense back in. Try to make sure you get a full seal all around again or you will end up with water in them and a foggy / condensation effect. Do it properly or don't do it all, although it just requires careful hands and patience.

It looks overly bright in photos but in real life its quite normal and functional and the standard indicators work perfectly well. No issues at all. I think it looks great and is a nice subtle bit of modern day lighting without taking anything away from the look of the car.

I didn't actually do a How 2 as such Spanky, but I took some pics. Ill dig them out and add them in.

First I upgraded the dirty old clears that were on there for the crystal style unit.

This is how the crystal units looked just fitted straight on:

I replaced the orange indicator bulb with Philips Silvatec to eliminate the orange:

Then I got a pair of these from Ebay for a couple of euro:

Here's how they look without any lense glare:

And the way most shots turn out when taken head on:

I have the LED bulb replacing the standard ones in crystal clear indicators. Looks well on their own imo(i.e. when the sidelights are on) but when the headlights are on they are a different colour so i'm not sure if i will keep them or go back to standard when they blow. No pics unfortunately.
