Consider covering the finished article with clear or tinted window film as acrylic will scratch easily.

Thanks will do,

Yeah i was planning on using really dark tint on the inside but now that you mention it scratches easy i might use medium tint on both sides.

Got 50mm angles today and cut 2 lengths, 2foot each

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
cut 3 notches in each 6inches apart so that it bends to go with the curve of the plastic.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG
Bolted them to the plastic and decided to tac the edges to have it hold the shape, there is no need to weld though, i just welded because i could.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

after i took them off they held the curve perfectly, so i went ahead and welded them all around,

and thats the aluminium brackets made up.

I have total respect for what you are doing and I am in no way trying to be patronizing, but a word of advice.

I have read about people making these for themselves before and they have ended up setting their car on fire.

If the plastic melts onto the hot engine then it could be disaster.

For your sake and your MR2, test how that plastic reacts to a lot of heat.

Re: F40 style engine bay cover. 2 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 72
Yeah i already thought about that, the man did say it would hold up to engine bay temps,
I also have the original engine bay temp sensor that turns on the engine bay fans placed close to the manifold, it gets hotter quicker and turns on fans sooner,
I also replaced the original fan with a better one and added another fan to the firewall between boot and engine, which works off the same temp sensor.
I will be monitoring temp levels closely at first and move the temp sensor closer to manifold if needed.
Im thinking of cutting the sheet (see pic), that way in the summer (when it could get really hot) i could take off just the bottom half and put it in the boot to have even better cooling

Good luck with the project.

Really liking this, should be a good improvement in aerodynamics at high speed as well.

Bonnet pins might be the easiest way to secure it, can I ask how water tight it will be when its complete?

Yeah im on the lookout for aerocatch flush hood latches with keys, i think someone offered me them before on here but cant remember who

Im not designing it to be waterproof so i have no idea but from the looks of it it will stop a lot more water than the stock lid because this dosent have vents

A couple of months ago on one of your threads we briefly talked about my flush lockable Aerocatches, but they are not for sale.

On the lookout for aerocatches with locks and dont feel like paying 50-60euro for a set.
Ones without keys go for 20euro i wouldnt mind if the lockable ones were only 10euro more.

Went on ebay today and guess what found a set of hood pins with keys for 18euro and already ordered.
www.ebay.com/itm/With-Key-Black-Racing-F...45112375&vxp=mtr

Also got some more work done on the cover,
cut the edges down a bit more to fit the rubber that goes around the front windscreen.
Everything lined up nicely, waiting on them latches now.
