Rather than reproduce, the link below gives details on diagnosing problems with reversing lights and how to change the switch mounted on the gearbox, including the MrT part number.

www.imoc.co.uk/forums/kb.php?mode=article&k=86

I have checked the prices of the switches. With MrT it is £29 (Charles Hurst Belfast) but Euro Car Parts do a compatible one (I think) for £10.56.

Good luck

If only I saw this a month ago! I got the reverse switch from Toyota @ 40 euro, plus getting the switch fitted by a mechanic. Cost me about 120 euro in the end.

In theory its an easy swap but judging by the pics its a real bitch to get to. I'm not sure its possible on a tubby to go in over the top to the g'box so I might have to go in the bottom

Once I have a go I will offer my services to anyone else. At least I know what to charge but €80 for time seems steep. Presumably that equals about 1.5 hours??

5 months later and I finally got round to sorting my reversing lights.

It took me about 30 mins but once I figured it out it was fairly easy. You have to work blind to get the socket down into the car and the existing switch took a bit or persuasion to remove.

Now that i know how to get in there it's a 5-10minute job. I will be doing Ricky2's on saturday so I will time myself and go for speed - it's his car after all so I'm not as worried

I have a 27mm deep socket now. You need this to remove and install and switch. If anyone wants to borrow it it's yours for a bag of Haribo starmix and a KC

Dont worry about it sean, they dont test the reverse lights at mot.

The euro car parts switch worked a treat for me and ricky. I have the socket needed to fit it, so no need to buy that. I can drop up to yours sometime and whack the switch in for you. Easy job once you get at it.

Maybe the reverse lights could just be a blown fuse?

Reverse lights are about the only ones they don't check.

If you don't have the socket then let me know and I will (at least) drop it round to you at home or work before Wednesday - finish for xmas. The socket you need is a 27mm extra deep (needs to be about 70mm long inside the socket).

I think the Euro parts number is 465820040, but best to check this as it only lists one for the 3SGE however I think the part is the same
