Hi guys I have an 1991 non turbo mr2.The valve cover is pissing out oil. I have the gasket, and would love some advice on changing it.I have come across stories about flames shooting through the grill when the oil comes in to contact with the exaust.

Should be relatively easy Dave if you have a socket set?

Take a photo of the top of the engine, post it up here and we'll tell you what you have to do.

If you're suffering from lag, you're either in the wrong gear or the wrong car!

hope the pic loads, I just wondering do I just put the new gasket on with a small bead of silicon on the corners or do I put silicon all the way round the head face then pleace the gasket on to that.

If it's a rubber gasket (surely it's not cork?) then you don't need to use any silicon. Some people say that you need to put some RTV in the corners where the cam bearing caps are, however if you take your time, clean the points very well (maybe with a razor blade if there is old rubber stuck there), and tighten down your corner bolts on the cam cover properly, then there is no need to use any extra RTV etc. Actually I think I saw it mentioned in the BGB that you should use it, however I have always got away without it.
