It sure feels great to have the MR2 back on the road.
She's driven 500 miles in the last 3 weeks without missing a heart beat.

So I made a purchase from GotTwoTubby in the form of a Blitz panel air filter.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

So it was off to the shed to dismantle the MR2 for the night.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

The airbox was filthy. So it was out with the hoover and WD40 to clean out the inside of the box.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Old filter out.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Then settled in the new filter.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

With the airbox complete it was time to pay attention to the Throttle Body.
I doubt it was ever removed from the car, as it was black with carbon gunk.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

I used Carb cleaner to dissolve and then wipe away the gunk.
Some difference. Ideally I'd love to remove the whole unit and polish it as I did on my corolla project.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Then I reassembled everything, all looking nice and clean now.
BTW, has anyone here ever removed their resonator box?
I was tempted to do so, but I wasn't sure if it was a wise move as I've never had a car with one before.
Anyone got any thoughts? To me it looks like it is just added weight.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

The bay looks neat but needs a little bling. I've some red silicon hosing left over from other projects that I think I'll use on the vaccum and coolant lines.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

Then being an LED nut as I am, I fitted some Cree LED parking lights.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

The photos look terrible, but I promise they are not tacky blue, but more a clear 5000k white.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

I'll try and get better pictures on my camera next time.

Small update, I got some Lockwood door sill trims on eBay or a small fee.

They are badly scratched in places, but I plan to refurb them.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

They sure are a clean fit though.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

I tried 2000 grit sandpaper but it still is too rough on them.
Has anyone got any suggestions before I completely sand these back and buy new 'MR2' decals to place on them?

Looking well! Did you try autosol on them and buff by hand?

@eringobragh; I've a cheap Lidl car polisher that I could try.

The Blitz filter hasn't made a huge difference other than some increased throttle response. But this also may be due to cleaning the throttle body.

Like all panel filters Im sure you'd see the results on a dyno.

The CREE bulbs came from Alixpress.

@Bommie, thanks dude.
I think they may be too rough for hand polishing. I'll try and get some AutoAutosol and let you know how I get on

Well lads, just some updates on the MR2.

The door sills are still in the shed, I must get around to fitting them.

I've gotten some nice stainless steel door lock protectors in the meantime.
- Its the little things that count.

BEFORE:

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

AFTER:

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

The MR2 actually had trouble pre NCT whereby the jack went though the sill during some routine work at home. I had suspected the car had the sill of death at the back passanger side for a while now. I chanced my arm and put it into the NCT, but it failed for th rust as I expected. So the car was sent off to my local bodyshop for a sill rebuild.

I have no photos but the rust wasn't severe at all. The affected metal was cut away and a new piece was welded on and moulded into the sill. The car was reput into the NCT and it passed no problem. So I was delighted to say the very least. :)

So this is the point where I am currently at. The same bodyshop is going to respray the sill next Monday to make the repair invisible. But this got the auld cogs turning in my head...

While the car is in for respray work I've decided to do multiple jobs.

1. Colour code the sills.
2. Colour code the rear spats
3. Colour code the front lip - I have purchased (recieved) a Rev3 version lip from SteveH. This too will be fitted to the car and colour coded in crimson red.

I've been debating for a while whether to colourcode the car or keep it red and black. Colour coded has won ot in the end.

My overall aim is for the car is to make it a colour coded crimsson red rev1.
Like this... (but not as awesome)

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

I'm the market for a nice set of 15 or 16 inch alloys too. I like the Rev3 alloys I have, but I'd love a sporty aftermarket set to throw on from time to time.

Dropped the car this morning into my local bodyshop along with the new front lip.

Below are a few snaps from the TOC-irl meet in Portlaoise yesterday. I really think a 25mm drop would just suit the car perfectly.

So the car has been away for  2 weeks getting:

Sill restoration.
Full underbody rust proof coating.
All major scratches removed.
Colour coded the skirts and rear spats.
Fitted Rev3 lip and colour coded it.

I am absolutely over the moon with the work.
The next plans I have for it:
- Slight 25-30mm drop
- TRD MR2 leads
- New disks

If anyone has these bits please drop me a shout.
