Le Mans June 10 Years ago Karma: 117
Hi all,
I have been reading the Le Mans 2010 thread over at imoc.co.uk

www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11...28a5b773a6243f948ce9

I am actually thinking of heading over, partly coz i have a friend who lives over there, and she is always asking me to come over.

look like its a 3.5hr drive from Cherbourg, after grabbing the ferry from Roslare.

Just wondering if anyone else has been, or is thinking of going this year.

I will have a look into prices, and post them...

Hmmm...i'd be interested! I hope le mans ticket prices aren't in the same league as formula 1 tickets.

I actually have that planned for a while, since I was living in the US I dreamed of watching this race. If anybody wants to organize this and get it going I'd definitely like to join or meet some MR2 people there.

Just been doing some research on this. The ferry is going to cost about €350 return for one adult and one car and takes about 18hrs, irish ferries only travel to cherbourg once a week, they travel to roscoff more often which is 365km from le mans, cherbourg is 284km. Tickets for the race, from what i can gather, cost €65 but that doesn't include a seat in the grandstand, I think costs another €60. Le Mans is a small city so I imagine that hotel rooms, parking, dining etc are going to be at a premium.

So I reckon we'd be looking at something like this
ferry- €350
petrol- €100-€150 ish
le mans ticket- €65-€125
accom. & food- around €100 per day at a guess

yeah I was checking and it does seem quite expensive to take cars out of this island. That's something I hope Ireland in the future will work on and make it more connected to the rest of the continent.

I reckon i will take a week, sure u will be at thet track for 3 days with qualifying etc, then a few days either side to chill out at camp site n catch some rays.

The ferry price is MAD money.

Thanks for doing some digging on the prices Mark.

Good digging Mark! (karma click 4 you ) wife would kill me going away for a week and leaving her with the kids. If I can figure out a way around it (i.e. co-incide a family holiday in France) then I will....

The other option is to take the ferry to UK, drive through and then the Eurostar - might be the same price, if not dearer.

I'm in same boat as Quandry - hard to justify a week off and dumping the kids with the wife.

The less fun and cheaper option is for the group to go in a few "normal" cars ...

I've always thought about going to the Ring or Le Mans but it does end up havingto commit to it as a major holiday in terms of time and money.

The other one I wanted to do was to organise a trip to the British Motor show - would have been a cheap alternative where you'd only need to commit to say a 3-day weekend. But afaik its cancelled this year

I just had a look on directferries.com, there are 3 sailings per week, and the price is 523E for 2 adults and an MR2 including cabin, so thats 260 each. I think that is a lot more reasonable.
Plus the more frequent sailings might help the people with families, get off side for a few days.

318 with Celtic ferries, for 1 person and car and cabin, 198 for one person, car and just a sleeping seat.

Re:Le Mans June 10 Years ago Karma: 213
198 is sounding very tempting.

Just a pic to get people's appetite for a road trip going ...

And just after a quick look, I found a hotel 1 hour away when staying for 3 nights is only 165. That price was for having a double room to yourself.

Just looked again and you can get hotels for 80 euros per person for the 3 nights, incl breakfast for 2 sharing - would just need to ring and check to make sure they were twin rooms !

Getting a bit excited for a road trip - would still have to get my visa sorted though ...

Edit: Hang on - Ferris Wheel? maybe we just park the kids on that and show the wives the nearest shoe shop  sorted!

nice picie
I am keeping an eye on the thread over at imoc, they seem to have a very good handle on camping at this stage, i dunno if i am up for camping, simple due to the size of MR2. But some of the camp sites have small 2 bed apartment style places to stay, which would be perfect.

That is where they are staying..

So guys what's the deal? Is anybody really planning on going? Let me know and I would be glad to join. I've watched F1 3 times already and I think Le Mans 24 is the best for the price! Cheaper ticket and 24 hours of cars racing

Hiya,
I have been looking into it, i am actually thinking of flying down now, as i don't have to waste a day each way on the boat.

The UK MR2 guys stay 20mins drive from the track, I was kinda hoping to go to the track for a few hours n have a few beers then go back for a rest etc etc

What would be your preferred mode of transport?

If somebody from Ireland wants to drive there, I could join and help pay for petrol and the ferry price. Since I only have a Irish Learner Permit I don't have the rights to drive one YET. If not then, I will have to find the cheapest way to go there. I just wanted to confirm with someone here, so I could ask my manager for the weekend off.

Well, I am in Cork...so I thought getting on the ferry and then a bus would be the best way. Since you know more about this than I do...Let me know what is the best option and confirm whether you are going or not and I will buy the ticket.
