we always seem to count you twice Mark, you are THAT important

There are two options in my village that have car parking but one is on the main road (and close to the pub) so very visible, the other is the Ballycanal option which is a mile outside the village but with more secure/concealed parking.

I think, out of those two, Ballycanal would be a better option.

Let me know if you want me to make enquiries for you or if you would prefer to stay elsewhere

Not 100% sure where the starting point is going to be yet. We can either drive the route from south to north or the other way.

It is likely we will be meeting up near the Giants Causeway for about 11:30/12 noon for the BBQ, then heading off down the coast road.

This would mean, from where I live, the meeting point is about 1:30 by Google link below

maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_...UTF8&t=h&z=9

The other starting point would be in Belfast but this is less desirable as it leaves the boring bit of driving till after the good bit. Link to other starting point below

maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_...+Castlereagh,+BT8+6+(Sainsburys+Forestside)&hl=en&geocode=FUtVPwMdChSh_ylTXRcEEv1gSDGlSElKenUG1w% 3BFcCXQAMdct6l_yG8D13J9J-xuQ&mra=pe&mrcr=0&sll=54.523526,- 6.063805&sspn=0.325183,0.617294&ie=UTF8&ll=54.517096,- 6.064453&spn=0.325234,0.617294&t=h&z=11

I think we need to decide where were definately going to start from and then pick a hotel to stay in, my thoughts would be that its a bank holiday weekend so the longer we leave it the less likelyhood we'll get rooms etc??

If were starting in belfast then I think we should stay with spanky in moira, m50 to Moira is 2hrs, but if were starting up at bushmills its 3 and a half hours from blanch or 1 and a half from moira, so may stay a bit closer tahn moira for driving to the next morning?

Any thoughts?

I think the plan will be to start on the North coast, have the BBQ (at about 12:30) then drive down the coast road towards Belfast. With this in mind it doesn't really matter where you stay. You either drive up to the North coast in the morning or the night before.

The advantage of staying in Moira is that I can take you out to the pub on the Saturday night for a few bevvies and food (you pay for your own .... just to avoid confusion )

We could also build in a trip to my University for some pics, either on the Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning.

Yeah, my Uni what of it

I would need to make a phone call to give the right people their place so that security don't come and evict us. Let me know if yous are interested. Photo of the main building is posted in the calender thread. Would be a nice backdrop

Spanky, any chance we can get a definite starting point. The chances of us all getting a room in the same hotel are getting smaller by the day

OK guys, the following cofirms the details for this event:

Starting point:

Magheracross picnic area, on the main Portrush to Portballintrae road (A2) ... meeting at 11:30am for BBQ lunch before setting off at around 1pm

Google street view link

Driving the coast route from north to south

Google maps link for route

Mid-way meeting/stopping point ... Boat Park, car park in Cushendall

Google street view link

If anyone wants to meet up to drive to the meeting point together then let me know. I would suggest Junction One car park in Antrim as a fairly good central point. If not, see you all at Magheracross

@mnixon: with this starting point any accommodation on the north coast will have you close for the drive. however, we are starting fairly late so you are welcome to drive up with me as suggested before. Your call dude

For those that want to meet up before the BBQ spot, shall we say 10am at Junction 1 of the Motorway. There is a car park off the Dunsilly roundabout. We will be leaving here at 10:15 sharp for those that want to drive in convoy to the BBQ area on the north coast.

Google street view of car park

please note this is not the Junction One shopping centre, it J1 of the M22

Cheers

Guys

Some accommodation options for you. Let me know if you want me to assist in any way

Accommodation options

Moira - Ballycanal Manor (~£30-40 b&b) - 30minute drive to 1st meeting point + 1 hour drive to BBQ

Antrim - Dunsilly Hotel (~£50-60 b&b) - 1 minute drive to 1st meeting point + 1 hour drive to BBQ

Antrim - Holiday Inn Express (~£50-60b&b) - 5 minutes drive to 1st meeting point + 1 hour to BBQ

Portstewart - Cromore Halt (~£55 b&b) - 15 minutes from BBQ

My recommendation would be either Moira or Portstewart. Both are similar prices as I think the Portstewart one is per room and Moira is per person, but don't quote me

I have just got confirmation from Steve @ MR2 Only Mag that this run will be featured in the following edition of the magazine (assuming I can pull a decent article together for it).

Just another reason ... as if you need it ... to get along to this meet.

Only limited spaces available so get your name on the list now

Cheers for doing some research on the accomodation Spanky
I'll be staying in Garvagh and swagger and dshamrock will be staying in Coleraine. Let us know if you want to meet up on saturday evening, maybe somewhere halfway between coleraine and Moira, for a bit of a drive/some grub etc

Garvagh, slightly random I presume its with a friend as Garvagh wouldn't be renowned for its hotels.

We could meet up on Saturday night or I could meet with yous in the afternoon before you head north to Coleraine and Garvagh ??

If you fancy leaving a little earlier I could cook you up some lunch

or

we could head out for a Subway and a bit of a blast in the cars (shakedown for the saturday)

or

head to Belfast for some pics (via some decent roads) with the potential future calender in mind

I will keep the day free as I would probably only be washing and polishing the car anyway

To meet up in the evening would be a bit of a drive for all with the potential for not being able to have a pint.

no pressure then.

I might arrange to meet up with you guys in Newry. We could head up into the Mournes if the weather is good for a few photos ops (my avatar was taken on the Mourne drive last year).

We could also head to Belfast for shots at Queens Uni, I will let the relevant bureaucrats know and get permission

We could also head into west and north Belfast for some photo ops as some of the paramilitary murals .....

Wouldn't fit in with the timings on the coast road weekend but we could see how it works out. Other option is that some of us up here meet up there some sunday morning to get a shot or two.

Spanky, I think that's a great idea, I'd love to see/take pictures of the murals but I think for a bunch of us to drive into town and hold up traffic while we take pictures of our southern reg cars infront of the loyalist murals is overstepping a line. You might see it differently and you'd obviously have a better idea than me but i reckon we'd royally piss some people off!
But I'd definitely be up for it some other time, i could leave my car at your place go with you to get some pics of your car

Wouldn't be any hassle but I wouldn't do it with 20 cars  I was thinking of doing it on the saturday when there will be 4 or so of us. The majority of the murals are in housing estates were traffic isn't too much of a problem.

The southern reg might be a slight issue in the prod area or at least interesting

I still think the titanic mural on Dee street would be a good one if we can work it.
