NEW RULES ON MODIFIED CARS ??? 4 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 19
Hi there,

Some people here that know me personally ,know I like to panic prematurely but here is what I found ...

www.independent.ie/irish-news/modified-c...-plans-29053591.html

Just want to know your opinion on this matter, I know there will be bunch of people in real trouble with twin engine glanza's and stuff,

Firs of all I don't understand it in full, so is it in place ? or is just a plan or what;s the story,

and than what really falls in to modification ... boot spoiler, 16" wheels, ??
I can imagine big turbos and strockers and stuff do, I guess my tom's scoop will end up in the shed,

what about my Ambipure Aqua car smell ? is that modification or will I have to take it off and let it smell like fart.

This is completely idiotic and I really hope they see sense and don't jump on the EU bandwagon on this issue.
The MOT/NCT is there for this very reason, if your car passes NCT then it is roadworthy and thats it. If they want to be more stringent then make the NCT an annual thing like the MOT instead of lasting 2 years.
If someone modifies their car dangerously after their car is nct'd then they need to make more road check points and the like to ensure vehicles are up scratch but to have your car inspected after every modification is a ridiculous request.

I met a German fella when over at the moto gp a couple of years ago. They have this very system that's the topic of this newspaper article. If they bring it in you can just forget about modified cars. Everything that's not standard, including cosmetic changes, has to rigorously tested at the owners expense. Apparently it costs a fortune also.

That's a load of shite to be honest.. They should probaly try fixing the roads first so poeple do have to serve around pot holes and uneven roads surfaces. This would also help road cyclist not ending up in the middle of the road to get hit or knocked down.. This would also help drivers not to be frustrated by cyclist and not do anything stupid to get around them. I agree that is what the nct is for. I'm probaly going off the point a little bit there ha.
Just looking for another way to get money out of us .

England however has my respect here, they said clearly "Great Britain was always about motoring, and modified car scene means 160 000 jobs over there", so Eu can buzz off...

And it's a fact, in England you can attach lights and metro engine to a dumpster and make it road legal and insured car !!!

Their import market is still going strong, still have all them Jap dealers that vanished here, and to think that few years ago English lads would travel here for best fresh Imports, what the hell happened ...

When it comes to Germany, as far as I remember you can modify your car as long as you use Tuv approved parts. But if you fit yamaha r1 engine to the back of VW Lupo - than your in trouble.

I could well see a system like this coming in over here. The government are obsessed with road safety. It is one of the very few areas that they can enact any kind of control and be seen to make a difference. Forget crime, drug abuse, suicide, the economy, jobs, lets just stop people putting 16inch rims on their cars, that'll solve all our problems!!!

Unfortunately, the vast majority of people, including those who make the laws, view cars as simply a means of getting from a to b and not something to have any passion about.

It would seem to me that they would be better off trying to regulate the number of provisional licensed drivers on the roads as a real means of improving road safety rather than this messin!!

I have been reading about this for a couple of weeks, send a letter to them about your views against it. At the least you will have made a statement that is not allowed be ignored, ranting here will do nothing.

From my own stand point I love my cars and tweaking them in very small specific ways to improve the road driving experience. I will not change a thing till I end up in court and even then will not pay heed to this crap. Not enough Garda to monitor motor tax let alone check that your ride height it TUV compliant.

Another thing that may happen is that all the jap sourced mods that you may want or have on your car will require some sort of EU compliance document. That is not going to be available for older items come hell or high water.

In all honesty and from the bottom of my heart (I know this is a children's channel so apologies).

Fuck them!
