Can anyone identify what this is. It looks like sone type of valve that operates a lever that runs through the inlet manifold-it appears to have a vacuum line running off it.

My car has been idling like crap when cold recently and Ive just now discovered that a wire (I think its something to do with earthing) somehow got traped by the lever, therfore holding it in an open position permanently
. Ive no idea how this happened, or when.

Im in work now so cant drive the car but on initial inspection the car is idling much better since removing the trapped wire.

any thoughts?

That would explain the poor idle alright, No idea how it happened. Ive repositioned the wire up and out of the way now so shouldnt happen again-weird!!

That unit operates the ACIS, the system that gives the engine a bit more kick above 4500rpm. If it was stuck partially open that may explain the issues.

I would remove the EFI fuse for a minute then reinstate it and go for a blast to clear her lungs, after the snow shifts maybe.

Well this has really made a difference. Now the car has returned to a high idle (the above issue was making it idle at 5-600rpm) that I mentioned in a previous post. Not ideal but since that was the original issue, it makes things less confusing. Im also hopeful I have that sussed because

1) my AC was removed which apparently can cause the idle to rise by 200rpm.A thread on MR2.com recommends plugging the vacuum lines that run to the AC idle up VSV.

2)Had my throttle body off recently and noticed that I could see light around the rim of the butterfly valve-apparently this shouldnt be so as air is getting sucked in when the ecu reads the throttle is shut.

Heres the thread from MR2.com
www.mr2.com/forums/non-turbo-engine-talk...ed-my-high-idle.html

Thanks for your help guys, everyday I learn something new

Greg, 900rpm is perfect, 1200 for the maxima sounds high to me, something needs looking at.

900 is grand Greg. My best guess is an air leak somewhere is causing the higher revs. Possibly in the throttle body. yea it sounds louder alright but other than that it runs great.
