Radiator fan issue 6 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 12
I'm just after realising that my radiator fan does not appear to work.

I had my car idling for over 20 mins and the fan did not kick in.

As a side issue I noticed that my engine bay cooling fan was not working either. when I disconnect the sensor the fan comes on so I reckon the sensor is dead-I have a replacement at home so shouldn't be an issue.

All the fuses check out okay. Coolant temp is always spot on.

Anyone have any thoughts on why my radiator fan was not kicking in?
Is it true if I disconnect the temp sensor in the radiator it should turn on if working?

I disconnected two connectors that are on top of the radiator-one on each side-but this did nothing-but don't think they were the temp sensors.

can anyone point me as to where it is

does the car have AC (or had so in the past?)

Dont disconnect the sensors, they are there for a reason.

Yea it had ac but that's been removed. At what stage should the fan kick in. Surely after 20mins+ at idle it should turn on.

Disconnecting the sensors is only a test to see if the fans work. Apparently they have a fail 'on' setting.

Mister 2, has your temperature gauge ever risen above the half way mark when stuck in traffic, if not then don't worry about it.

I drive the track car with no fans on at any time and on the last three track days the temperature has only ever got to the half way mark even after coming into the pits, when in theory the temp should rise dramatically.

Sitting in the road car on the drive I would let it warm up a bit (don't think 20 mins on idle would do it), then hold it at 2500rpm for a good while in order to get her hot enough to turn the fans on.

Just keep an eye on the gauge, the fans should work when they need to.

Slip-no never had any issues with tempersture-always sits perfectly at slightly below horizontal. That's a relief, was mainly just worried if i was doing any long term damage.

Erin- i haven't no. Anto removed the ac so don't.know if he might have done. I have disconnected the idle up valve in the engine.bay though as that's.no longer needed.

Where in the frunk is it and il check?

Thanks for your help lads.

here's a similar issue where the fans are always running, might be something useful in here:
