My MR2 failed the NCT on 'primary structure corrosion', the nearside rear door sill is rusted by the wheel arch. Tbh I didn't think it was that bad but Mr NCT says it needs welding.

Could anyone provide me with a rough price for thus job? If any of the Cork members could recommend someone to do it I would appreciate that also.

any pics of the damage you could be talking a few hundred if its to be cut and welded.

they've pulled that shite with me before on another car where it was just surface rust na dI wire brushed it and painted it.

the sills usually rust frrom the inside out - pull out the foam in the cavity behind your seat and stick in a camera and take a pic -

Looks like a cut n weld job...the sill is quite corroded. I was quoted 300 euro which isn't too bad from what I've heard.

That sounds roughly about right. I had mine done a couple of years ago at Retro cars Dublin.

It's not the full sill, just a section about a foot long near the wheel arch..

I sold a lad a passenger sill there awhile back. We cut the good sill off a car here and bored out the spot welds
And he got it refitted to his 2. Alot of work but I think will last alot longer than cut and weld. Ya could treat the new sill before its welded in. Can't see it costing more than 350-400 labour. But seems a great job. Depends how far gone the sills are.

Or buy a good shell from you and throw everything over, good sills and no emission tests, also works out cheaper.
