Hey there!

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I bought an MR-S recently, and the back window is starting to come away from the soft top a small bit... it's not too bad at the moment but in this country with our weather it'll just get worse hehe.

Can you lads recommend somewhere that I could get this repaired? Does it just need a bit of glue or something?

I'm pretty clueless. Thanks.

Nolan autocare get my thumbs up, they do work directly for Toyota Ireland as well.

There's a soft top repair kit available at Halfords:
www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servle...-1_categoryId_212605

Or otherwise I have heard of other systems like the Permatex top repair, maybe there would be something available at your local motor factors? not sure if you're in Dublin but these guys are pretty big and one of the chaps there owns a Mk1: southsidemotors.goldenpages.ie/

Welcome to MR2.ie!

+1 karma click for making the jump from lurker to poster, hopefully we might see you at a meet some time this year

Awesome, thanks guys! I'm in Galway but I would have no problem traveling to Dublin to get this fixed. I think I'll pick up that repair kit and give it a go. If I have no luck then I'll make the trip. Anything for an excuse to get on the new Galway-Dublin motorway.

I'll let you lads know how I get on. Thanks again!

My sister has my camera at the minute. I'll grab it off her later and snap some pictures in the morning.

Great site by the way. Tons of useful info on here. I'll definitely be sticking around.

Welcome to the site sjones, As Slipsliderg said I believe Nolan Autocare are pretty good value, wouldnt cost much for them to repair or even replace the rear screen

Very fricking nice, have you checked it for any precat problems.

mr2wiki.com/MKIII/Pre-CatFailure

Sorry for the scary story but its a known failure point on the per facelift model and will destroy the engine. Have a read up and check it, just to be safe.

I haven't had it checked for precat issues. I'm bringing it in to be serviced by a mate of mine pretty soon and I'll get him to check everything for me. Once I've done that I'll get the soft top fixed up as well. I've also noticed that one or two tiny areas need a paint touch up. I'm a bit of a perfectionist but this is my baby and I'm positive I'm not alone in thinking like this.

Thanks again for all of the advice, you guys are awesome.

Just got a Stainless manifold without the dreaded pre-cats, my old manifold is up for sale if anyone is interested, pre-cats have been gutted.

The car is going for a service this week and I'll see if the lads can fix up the soft top as well. The weather this last week was smashing so I was glad I hadn't sent it away just yet!

There's a couple of things I want to get done to the car before going to a meetup with you guys. I want to get it sprayed and also stick a hard top on it. I'm hoping to have everything complete by August.

Time to call a few breakers to see if they have any hard tops as they're expensive direct from Toyota.

Thanks Mike!

Here's an update.

The car was just serviced. New plugs, oil, wipers - the usual. Turns out they couldn't fix the roof so I'll need to sort that out but I'm putting that plan on the back burner for now because the car needs a new steering pump and they cost 1450 from Toyota. I have a crashed MR-S, so I need to see if the pump is OK in that car. If not, my plans for the roof repair, hard top and respray will have to wait a while.

I'm feeling a bit gutted at the minute.

Hehe yep! A little part of me is hoping they're wrong and that it's just the relay causing the pump not to pump.

The steering is a bit better now than it was when I handed it in. He said I should be OK for a while... If it gets bad again I'll turn the engine on/off a good few times to reset the relay. That will let me know if it's the relay or not.

It looks like it's a common failure though, according to my old pal Google.

Ah well. This just makes it an interesting few months ahead.

It's a very sad tail.

I bought a savage MRS in November 2008 for 8 grand. It had 50k kilometers on the clock.. She was six weeks old when I wrote her off. Coming off a roundabout and it was pissing rain. I was going a bit too fast and went into those railings (the metal wire things) on a dual carraigeway.

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

_KUNENA_BBCODE_HIDEIMG

I was lucky I survived to be honest, because there was a branch from a bush that went right through the soft top and missed my neck by an inch. It would have killed me I'd say, because it went through metal.

I was an idiot back then and it was a lesson I'll never forget.

I didn't go through the insurance because my premium would have went up.. so I took the 8 grand on the chin and just bought a new car to calm me down for a while.

That worked, and I bought my most recent MRS a month ago.

Wow! that's a nasty one alright, glad you came out of it unmarked! (apart from the dent in the wallet of course).

Surely the power steering pump would be identical?

KC+1 for you!!!

Hi

Just wondering did you get the soft top repaired. I have one and it has started to come away from the glass. I called the Nolan autocare but they said they cant do it. Do you have any suggestions?
