can anyone tell me..
why all of a sudden my rev counter has gone from 900 at idle to just over a 1,000 ? i tought it would balance out after a while but two weeks later of constant use and still my revs are just above a 1,000 at idle.. i kn ideally it should be around 900.. however will the engine idling higher than it use too cause any damage and does anyone else's car idle so high. ?

Is your car warming up correctly? The idle revs are controlled by the ECU. If the car has not fully warmed up it tends to idle high. This could be caused by a stuck thermostat, or a temperature sensor that is going faulty. There's also the consideration that your car is idling at 900rmp but it's an electronic fault in your tach.

There's also a few fiddly screws and things on your throttle body or the chance of a stuck throttle cable.

Overall you can see there's a few fiddly things involved!

Does it sound like it's idling higher than normal?

If you're suffering from lag, you're either in the wrong gear or the wrong car!

At a guess I would say it's a stuck thermostat, possibly temperature sensor but you could also have a vacuum leak. Is your engine turbo or NA?

Take a look at this page anyway and click on troubleshooting on the left hand side. You should be able to find the symptom and Toyota's diagnosis then on the panel in the right.

This thread is good with pics of what you'll be doing:

I plan to do the same myself soon. If I do it any time soon I'll try and take some pics.
