Whats the best Wax? 6 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 284
I'm looking at trying to get my car a super clean gloss finish which will last a few months, Some of the questions going through my head are

What do you think is the best wax?
Is there a certain wax thats better for dark or light coloured cars?
What steps to take before waxing?
Is the dearest the best?
Etc Etc,

I see Halford have a buy one get one free so I reckon now is the time to have a good go. My instincts are telling me to try Autoglym High Definition Wax @ €59.99 for 150g (+1 free) Has anyone used this?

Ive been surfing around and have seen some serious good results with this!

Anyone have any thoughts?

autoglym deff class stuff. the high resin polish is the one i use. the one u mentioning there is one my father recently got. its so expensive for so little im not even allowed look in the box... he says he going to use it once a year then the resin polish one for rest of year. not sure if that is a manufacturer suggestion or his own..

The customer reviews for the HD seem to suggest that one application will last months, i think i'll give it a go because its buy one get one free, heres a few pics from another forum of lads who used it,

As far I can figure out the best finish is achieved by clay bar, then a good polish straight afterwards.

Most people take a whole day to do it though, the finish achieved is beyond brillant from then photos I have seen.

Do a "How Two" for us, come on Dave you know you want to. Before and after pics and a demo on the clay bar aspect of it. Or as you are the god of slideshow's maybe a timelapse video of the whole thing.

interesting, would be an absolute clanger if it didnt look any better I'll have to ask mark on how to do the timelapse on the Nixon cameras, I might need a timer, oh and it will take 2 days seeing how my wife jus got a new car, wouldnt get away with spending all that time on just my car

We should be renting a house with a garage in the next couple of weeks so when we do I'm breaking out the rotary polisher and giving my baby a good going over!

I have so many holograms, swirl marks and craters to try and remove. Gonna order some G10 me thinks and give it a go.

Would anyone be interested in the following ?

They do a lot of work and quality appears to be top notch.

I was thinking of asking for a club discount - its not cheap but as they say, when detailing, their goal is to get the car as close to "as new" as possible.

It would want to polish the car itself for 60Euro!
I have been a huge AutoGlym fan over the years, i found this to be the biz for high gloss, it is so easy to apply once the car is waxed.

www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servle...-1_categoryId_212371

Recently i got poorboys SSR2 and the carnuba wax, detailer.ie recommended them to me, as the paint is very soft on MR2s, apparently. I think poorboys is very good too.

Once you remove the tar, and clay bar the car, all decent wax should have it shining

I thought the clay bar was only to fix bad oxidisation or serious neglect ... could be wrong though.

GWrinkle has used one of the Poor Bouys range recently on his 2 and loved the results. PM him for the exact name

Re:Whats the best Wax? 6 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 284
Ok, I started doing my car this evening and will hopefully finish at some stage tomorrow I'll put up photos tomorrow night, im also going to do my wifes car (Toyota Yaris Silver) just to compare how different colors come up, So heres what i bought today:

Autoglym Bodywork shampoo conditioner (325ml)
Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover 325ml
Autoglym Clean Wheels (500ml)
Autoglym Fast glass 500ml
Autoglym Super resin polish (325ml)
Autoglym High Definition Wax 150g

So for my MR2 i started off with the Shampoo & then the Tar remover, then the glass and have started the waxing. I'll leave the wheels till last(cant Wait ) , So far im loving the HD wax, it comes with 2 applicator pads which are already damp, and a microfibre buffing towel. The wax goes on really easily and when it dries it doesnt become dusty like other wax's i have used, I managed to get the roof and bonnet waxed and buffed(by hand) but I dont know how well it really looks yet as it was getting a bit dark, but I could see the winscreen wipers reflecting in the bonnet which looked well so fingers crossed, My only initial niggles are that white cars dont really mirror reflections aswell as Dark colors would, my wifes car is silver so I reckon it will be interesting to see what differences there are between the finished effect on white versus silver, Hd wax was €60 for 150ml, this initially seemed very expensive to me and a bit of a gamble but so far ive used little or nothing as it spreads really well, i'll take a photo of whats left in the tin after the two cars are done.
I will also see if i can get a short clip of the beading effect and if someone reminds me i'll do another short clip of how the beading is in a months time. I did consider getting the clay bar aswell but the more I read about it the more It seemed to suggest that it would be for best used on newer cars (fresher paint) as it will aim to smooth your paint work, considering my car is 15yrs old I thought it best not to used it in case it found loose paint or something like that. Would defo use it on my wifes car as its a 2006 and it wouldnt have been t-cut etc over the years. Anyway i'll post up the pics and updates tomorrow

ive never really used one before, but couldnt believe how easy the tar comes off, was really impressed with it, it litterally disinegrated in about 5 seconds, the main reason I got all autoglym products was because i wanted to try the dearest wax which was the autoglym one, and then maybe down the line i'll guage cheaper ones to it and see if i can get the same results etc will hopefully help the rest of yis choose what you need and what you dont need etc

I think the most interesting test will be how long the beading lasts for, ive read up alot on the hd wax and some are saying upto 50 washes, but you have to take into account what strenght the shapoo is your using aswell, hence staying with autoglym for this test

im not mechanical minded myself, quandry and slipsliderg etc would be best in that regards, swagger is excellent with electrics (self thought), he's helped my with lights, plasma dials, sound systems, and I reckon he'll be helping me with a few guages in the future bit by bit im learning myself but one step at a time have you looked into any bodykits or accessories yourself?

I just bought my MR2 2 weeks ago so I reckon it'll be a while before I get too serious about accessorising but I want to learn more and see what others have done, I'll start small. Right now I have a new stereo to put in and a cheap hands free kit to take out for now. The hands free kit is wired up with the stereo so I've no idea where to begin about unwiring the lot and wiring up the stereo!

Should be as simple as pull out & unplug at the back and put in your new one, the hands free kit may be just be blue toothed to the stereo and fed off a live wire
