Yes it will fit but he'll need more than just the engine, he'll also need gearbox, turbo, downpipe, exhaust, intercooler, ecu with wiring loom, drive shafts etc. The whole works!
Here is a decent guide/ how to on the swap.

The list of parts is huge ... Best advise I can give is tell the guy to save his money sell his N/A and buy a Turbo ...

Here is what you need for a conversion

Engine
Gearbox ( Rev 1 has cable driven speedo so speedo cable and dash clocks )
Turbo
Exhaust downpipe and back boxes
Driveshafts
Rear Hubs
Gear linkage
Throttle cable
Ignitor
Fuel Pump
Body Loom
Engine Loom
ECU
Intercooler & piping
MAP sensor for a REV1/2 MAF for rev 3 up

While you are doing all that you may do basic maintance on the engine while it is out

Full service
Drop the sump and clean inside the bottom end
Manifold Gaskets and any other gasket you can get to
Timing Belt and Water Pump
Clutch Kit
Engine Mounts ( the one on the firewall is probably gone )

I would advise rebuilding the brake calipers at the same time ...
More power needs good brakes .. a Big Red brake rebuild kit front and back ..

I found all this out the hard way and at a huge hole in my pocket ... and 6 months of lost time ... Now have a lovely carbon fibre wrapped shell sitting in my garage ..

Hi,

Ive put a rev one engine into a rev three.
I thought it would have been a straight swap but its not.
I used the rev3 gearbox with the rev 1 engine no prob.
This had to be done as the speedo was electronic.
You need to replace loom all the way up to the front of the car as well as ecu too
